ELF Translucent Matifying Powder Review

ELF Translucent Matifying Powder Review

Hello Everyone,

As you all know, I love ELF products. I know a lot of products from ELF are a hit or miss, but I always have had good experience with their products and hence go back to them again and again. This time, on one of my regular trips to Target, I picked up a couple of items from ELF which also included the ELF Studio Translucent Matifying Powder which I will review for all of you today.

ELF Translucent Matifying Powder

My Experience with ELF Translucent Matifying Powder:

I normally have dry skin hence don’t really need to use too much powder as they accentuate my dry spots and also I love the dewy look to my face and don’t care much for a complete matte look that is achieved by using powders, but lately, as Spring/Summer is approaching, I have started to notice that my skin is becoming more dry/combination type. I usually get shiny by the end of the day around my chin, forehead and under eyes. Hence I decided to pick up this product and I am very pleased with this choice.

Packaging:

The packaging is probably the best part about this product. I love the sleek matte black case which snaps shut securely with a click. It’s thin enough to fit easily in most purses and isn’t too heavy. It has a big-sized mirror which I love as it is so helpful in doing touch-ups on the go. It’s so big that I can easily do my full face makeup using just this mirror. I like the fact that the product and applicator are side by side and not in different compartments which makes the process a lot easier and faster.

Texture:

The powder feels very smooth to touch and doesn’t feel chalky or gritty. It doesn’t have a creamy smooth feeling but that is not a con. It goes on smooth and I do like the sponge applicator that is provided.  It doesn’t pick too much product in one go and I find that the roll and press motion works better than the sweeping motion to get the product pressed and blended into the skin. Also, the pressing motion gives a more concentrated application while the sweeping motion will give you sheer application.

It does live up to the claim of being mattifying.  Wherever it is applied, it erased the shine instantly and leaves the face looking fresh.  The area stays shine free for quite a few hours for me. Oily skinned beauties may require more touch ups but even with multiple applications, it has not caked up or made me look “powdery.” It also works as a setting powder for me and increases the staying power of my makeup.

ELF Translucent Matifying Powder

The shade “Translucent” works well and blends seamlessly with my skin tone. I am a MAC NW23 and usually use the shade Light- Medium in drugstore foundations. It does not make me look ashy or leave a white cast on the face. If you have a darker skin tone, this same powder is also available in “Tinted” and “Corrective” version.

If you are blessed with good skin with not a lot of imperfections, you can even get by with using just a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer and top it off with this powder. Though it does not have too much coverage, it does give the skin an evened out smooth look.  Overall, a really good product and for a $3 price tag, what’s not to love. I would definitely recommend this.
