ELF Essential Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Purple Review
Audrey Hepburn’s eye makeup in Breakfast at Tiffany’s always left me awestruck. The perfect cat’s eye, made shivers run down my spine, in sheer and utter rapture. It’s perfection at its best! This was what made me try my hand at liquid liners, leaving behind my trusty pencil liners, but due to my perpetually shaky hands, I am yet to master the art of applying liquid liner. *sighs* Oh well! But nevertheless, the liquid liner will always be one of the most alluring products in the makeup world. The hardest to master but the most versatile. The product I am now going to review can potentially bring together this retro classic along with a modern day trend, a bright pop of colour (can be attributed to the 80’s too). To top it all, the fact that it’s a felt tip liner makes mastering this art a breeze!
So, let’s get on with the review!
This is a felt tip liner with a very interesting curved body. The body is all black with just the name emblazoned in silver which makes this product look very classy and sleek. Not only that, by virtue of being a felt tip liner, it is inherently travel friendly. This pen style cosmetic can be easily slipped into even the tiniest of clutches. The problem with this, as it is with every other felt tip liner, is that it needs to be stored inverted or else it will dry up very fast, but this is easily remedied by proper storage.
My Take on ELF Essential Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Purple:
The best thing about this product is the gorgeous pop of colour that it gives, the purple is a very fashion forward and bright pop that leaves you salivating for more. Not only can this colour be worn alone, but it can also be paired with a basic black liner to give a very interesting yet eye defining look.
But the thorn in my maw is none other than the felt tip applicator that I actually bought this product for. The felt tip is exceptionally hard, it feels like you are trying to run a Pilot pen on your eyelid and just makes you want to cry in frustration. Because the colour is this peculiarly bright, but astoundingly stunning purple that makes me want to cry “HG!!!”
While the applicator makes a mess of things by being harsh, by just stretching your eyelid a wee bit (I know it’s bad for that region but… but… the colour!!!) and then applying, this product can be made usable. It takes about 30 seconds to dry but after which it remains smudge and waterproof.
The liner stays for a decent 5 hours alone and 8-9 hours when layered over the ELF Eyelid primer and black liner. After which, it proceeds to fade evenly into a muted lilac which is pretty darn cute too.
Pros of ELF Essential Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Purple:
- Classy packaging.
- Travel-safe packaging.
- Unique colour.
- Brilliantly pigmented.
Cons of ELF Essential Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Purple:
- The colour is not everyone’s cup of tea.
- Hard to locate in your vanity, because of no clear shade indication.
- Takes a few seconds to set.
- Can dry up easily if not stored properly.
