Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm Review

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm

By Ramaa Ramesh

Hello, beautiful people!

This is my first post with IMBB and I’m delighted to start by reviewing an item from an iconic range: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm. I’m of the type that’s always suffering from dry, chapped and cracked lips – so my life sometimes seems like one long quest to find that ‘dream lip balm’ that will really soften my lips and leave them moist for some time without minute-by-minute application of balm. Sounds familiar? 😉

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm
Recently, I came across an article where Victoria Beckham said she uses the Eight Hour Cream to keep her lips moist. Inspired by this, I thought why not give the Eight Hour Cream range a try – and decided to start with the Intensive Lip Repair Balm. Read on to see how it fares.

Product Description

This deeply hydrating balm helps heal dry, chapped lips with intensive moisture. Its conditioning formula is scientifically shown to strengthen lip’s delicate moisture barrier.

Directions to use
lip balm
Apply liberally at bedtime or as needed.

Price

£17.00 for 11.6ml – was the price at which I bought this online.

My Experience with Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm:

I’ve always been a fan of overnight application products and of Elizabeth Arden products: so when the two conditions combined in this product, I ordered one immediately! The pricing is expensive, but I have tried several lower priced balms which simply did not work for me, so I took the decision of trying this.
As with anything from Elizabeth Arden, the product comes in a classy, simple packaging. The package is a square white box with black lettering and the red Arden logo: basic, yet tasteful. The balm itself is peach coloured and comes in a small, transparent jar. In case you want to go beyond overnight use to carrying it around during the day, this is a perfect sized handbag goody. Full points for the packaging! I love it.

In terms of ingredients, the product contains shea butter, honey, beeswax, menthol and several leaf and flower extracts, including sunflower, arnica flower, soybean oil and castor seed oil. I have shared the full list here via a photo, and could not see parabens and sulphates anywhere on the ingredient list, which makes me happy!

On to the product:

The balm has a thick, sticky consistency and it coats your lips in such a way that it seems to seal off outside impact – of winds, sun, anything at all. After coating, lips have a definite thick, glossy shine. This is not a product which you barely feel after application – it makes its presence felt. Also, after applying, if you tend to talk a little bit or grab a bite of some food, the effect is lost immediately. Due to these reasons, I will stick to using it as a night balm as I prefer my day time lip balms to be thin, easy to apply and barely there at all.

I applied this balm for a week every night to see how it works. I must say I am sold on this beauty champion! After the first application, I woke up after a good night’s sleep of 10 hours (not just 8) and my lips were exactly as hydrated as they were when I applied the balm – soft and moist and supple. This was a great win for me, as most balms tend to disappear in a while after applying. Over a week’s application, my lips are noticeably softer and I need to apply my day time balms a lot less than I used to. Job done.

Finally, a very small amount of this balm goes a long way, so I confidently expect this little jar to last me at least 5-6 months with daily use. Given the price, this is a good factor.

Pros of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm:

• Delivers 100% on what it promises: leaves lips moist at the end of 8 hours, in fact even longer, when it is applied overnight.
• Over just one week, I can see an improvement in the dry, cracked nature of my lips, so it heals my lips in the long term which I feel is important.
• Since very little product is needed for an application, one small jar lasts a very long time. Given the price, I find this to be a necessary condition and I am happy about this.
• Contains natural extracts including sunflower, arnica flower, soybean oil and castor seed oil. I like to know that my daily use products contain natural ingredients which are good for me.
• The packaging is elegant and classy. In an emergency, I may throw this into my handbag and take it on a day out and it is an excellent handbag goody for such an occasion.

Cons of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm:

• Mainly the price – at £17.00 for 11.6ml and £20.00 for 15ml, it is by no means an inexpensive product. I am fine with this as it is an effective long term solution which works overnight to heal my lips which are otherwise not responding to regular balms.
• Leaves lips somewhat sticky and greasy, but this is an overnight product so you won’t notice in your sleep! 😉
• Given the price, I would have liked to use it as a daytime product also, but this is not possible for me as it is too thick for day use. If you don’t mind a thick, greasy balm for day use, this won’t be a ‘con’ for you.
• There is a very, very mild burning sensation (the kind that you see with certain menthol based products) but this is practically negligible, and I’m guessing it’s because the ingredients are working.

Do I Recommend Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm?
4.5/5 – I would absolutely recommend it anyone who suffers from recurring dry, chapped lips. I’ve only reduced half a point considering its price; otherwise it is a perfect buy. I have certainly found my night time dream lip balm!
