Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion Review

Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion Review

Hi everybody,

A couple of months ago, I was on a shimmer lotion/mist shopping spree and I did review a handful of those on IMBB, but today, I am reviewing the product with which my obsession for all things shimmery started. It’s the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Lotion, which is actually the first shimmer lotion I owned (it actually belongs to my mom, but well, I took it from her and now it’s mine :P) I have owned this shimmer lotion for almost a year and a half now and it’s high time I reviewed it, so here it goes. Read on to find out how it fared for me.

Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion

Product Details:

Red Door Shimmer is a modern floriental fragrance that celebrates the spirit of the season with sparkling fruits, shimmering florals and warming woods.  Top – The fragrance opens with the sparkle of Japanese Pear, Yuzu Leaf, Blackberry and Pink Pepper.  Middle – At the heart of the fragrance, Gardenia is layered with Casablanca Lily and Peony Petals, creating a beautifully feminine and irresistibly addictive effect.BaseAs warm and welcoming as an embrace, a blend of Tonka Bean, Red Amber, Fluffy Musks, Creamy Sandalwood and Vetiver Roots leaves a lingering trail of elegance and luxury.

Price:

I don’t exactly remember the price since my mom bought this over a year ago, but I’m guessing it to be around$25- $30 (not sure though!).

My Views on Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion:

Like I mentioned above, I have owned this shimmer lotion for a really long time. I wasn’t really impressed with the idea of wearing anything shimmery on my face/arms even at first, but boy did this change my whole idea of wearing a shimmer lotion! I discovered that a shimmer lotion is not only meant for wearing on the face/arms; you can sport it only on your neck sometimes since it gives a little glam look and also works fine as a fragrance too.  Also, you can wear it on legs when wearing a dress for a glitzy evening look. So, I have discovered a  lot of different ways to use shimmer lotions and even mists.

Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion

Packaging:  It’s nothing over the top, but the gold and red itself is very glamorous. It comes in a gold tube with a red cap that closes securely. The packaging is sturdy thereby making it travel friendly.

Fragrance: It smells exactly like the Elizabeth Arden Red Door EDP, only slightly milder. It’s a musky and warm fragrance. It smells mostly like amber, lilies and blackberries. All in all, I love the fragrance of this lotion!

Longevity:  The lotion does its job of moisturizing just fine. It keeps my skin moisturized for a long time. The shimmer that the lotion contains, stay on me for a really long time as long as the skin doesn’t come in contact with water since water washes away the lotion as well as the shimmer it contains. The fragrance of the lotion is as good as any perfume and so I don’t layer it with a separate perfume.  The fragrance stays on me for a good 5 hours at least.

Texture:  Now, that’s what I don’t like about this lotion – the texture. It feels kind of oily when I apply even a tiny drop of it. It gives my skin a sort of greasy feel which I loathe about it.  That’s the reason it doesn’t make for a good lotion to be applied on the face since it ends up making my face look crazy just after an hour of application. Another thing, I’m not sure if it’s because of the shimmer that it contains or because of the sticky, greasy texture, but my skin breaks out mad whenever I apply this lotion in summers, but it does make for a good shimmer lotion for the chillier weather.

Pros of Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion:

  • Not very expensive considering the brand Elizabeth Arden.
  • Has subtle golden shimmers, perfect for a glam and glitzy look.
  • Also does the job of a perfume/mist since it’s a fragrance lotion. The fragrance stays on me for at least 5-6 hours.
  • Keeps the skin moisturized well, the shimmer particles stay on as long as it doesn’t come in contact with water.
  • I have owned this for over a year and it’s still half full, so value for money considering a little goes a long way.
  • Smells amazing.

Cons of Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion:

  • Sticky and greasy in texture.
  • Not the perfect thing for summers since if I apply it on my face (even very little quantity of it) as a base for makeup, my face ends up looking very weird and extremely oily.
  • Not available in India.
  • When compared to its other counterparts, the other shimmer lotions available in the market are a lot cheaper than this one and a lot better in quality too.

Would I Repurchase/Recommend Elizabeth Arden Red Door Shimmer Body Lotion?

No, I won’t repurchase it nor do I recommend it. but I do recommend the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Eau De Perfume.

IMBB Rating:

3/5

Final Verdict:

All in all, it’s not something I’m obsessed with but I don’t hate it either. I’d just prefer buying a VS/ Bath and Body works shimmer lotion next time at a much cheaper price.

    1. Oh, it only ‘looks’ good. I’m not a fan of Elizabeth Arden either. Even their makeup remover is not upto the mark. *cry*
