Before I start the review, I must issue a statutory warning in public interest 😛 “Nostalgia Alert!!!!!!” Why? You will know. 😀
Today, is more of a “back to basics” kinda post. It is about a brand, that we all have used at some point of time, and for people who are in the early to mid twenties, like I am, this brand defined their teens and graduation years. We never came back with just one product. We always had our hands full in multiples due to the sheer cost friendliness of the brand. Nail paints, lip colors, and more recently, base makeup and lip balms, all within the range of college goers whose main source of income is, their pocket money. Yes ladies, I am talking about Elle 18.
I have lip colors ranging from n*des to toned-down plums and pinks, there are a few shades that I had always craved. The thing is, that I already used some of those shades in Elle 18, years back, but just could not find those anywhere else, in the long lasting ranges. A deeply craved shade, for me, has always been an orange, which is not too much in the face, but brightens up your face at the same time. So when, the other day, while surfing, I came across some old, and some new shades of Elle 18, I immediately went ahead and placed an order for four of them. The shade that I am going to review today, for you all, is the muted but bright orange from the range, aptly called, Tangerine Shot.
Price and Packaging:
Elle 18 has increased the price of its color pops, from 100 to 120. Still, it is very, very cheap as compared to other brands in the market. Is the low price a compromise on the quality that it delivers? I will be answering that question in the “my experience” section. For now, just know that it is really affordable. In fact, in a price that you buy one Lakme Absolute lipstick, you can buy five of your juicy Elle 18 shades, which are available in a huge array of colors, that, I can assure of. The choice and range is very wide.
The packaging is the same old one, a cute and small bullet, with a signature Elle 18 girl on cover. The packaging is a bit flimsy, and that’s the exact problem that I had with Elle 18 lipsticks back in time too. The flimsy packaging, which, although shuts down securely, but somehow keeps nagging at the back of my head, that there a few teeny chances of it opening inside my purse. Thankfully, it has only been a fear till date, never happened actually. 😛
My Experience with Elle 18 Color Pops Lipstick – Tangerine Shot:
As the name suggests, it is a juicy orangey-tangerine kind of shade, more of the shade of the orange bar that we used to gorge on, after school, and which used to leave our lips orange. 😀 However, that color was patchy and uneven. This lipstick, on the other hand, glides and ensures an uniform application of color on the whole lips.
The texture of the lipstick is like butter. It is something which I have always loved about these lipsticks of Elle 18. They glide on your lips, and make them look full and moisturized. You need not worry about applying a lip balm before it, either. It is a moisturizing lip balm, with a boost of color. It is small, and cute, and you don’t even mind reapplying like a lip balm.
Remember I said earlier, that I will tell you if the low price is a compromise on quality, it is not. In fact, the quality, and performance is better now. While earlier Elle 18 range did not stay on my lips for long, these lipsticks stay for around three hours, and survive a few snacks and beverages. Plus they leave a beautiful, moisturized kind of stain. This is the first time, that I love the stain that a lip color leaves, because it is not at all patchy. You need to reapply after meals, but given the moisture it provides, I don’t really mind. Plus, it smells heavenly.
You can remove it easily with a wet tissue. So, no hassles there, either. Recently, Street Wear too launched lipsticks in the range, much alike Elle 18. If I had to choose between the two, I would blindly go for Elle 18 any time. It smells better, feels better and performs better than Street Wear. Also, it is available at a lower price.
I only wish it had SPF, but then, you cannot complain at this price. L’Oreal ones are 8 times costlier than these, and even they do not have SPF. 😮

- The shade is bright and will cheer up your face and day, but still not over the top.
- Very affordable at Rs. 120/-
- Stays for a decent time period of 3 to 4 hours.

Cons of Elle 18 Color Pops Lipstick – Tangerine Shot:
- I only wish the packaging is a bit more secure, but then, this is more of my nagging feeling than a proper con.
IMBB Rating and Recommendation:
My rating for Elle 18 Color Pops – Tangerine Shot, is 4.75/5!! I am in love with it, again, and I am going to repurchase this when it gets over, and yes, it will get over, as it is my lip balm too. These beauties are worth buying ladies. Go get these!
