Fair and Handsome Skin Cream Review – Emami (for Men)

Grooming and looking attractive is the “in” thing for the male gender nowadays. Gone are the days when men would apply the horribly stinking Dabur Amla to their hair and wear a single shirt for an entire week!!!!!! Today’s male species have started giving importance to the way they look and SMELL not taking into consideration the weird Rahul Mahajan appearing on the national TV with Himalaya Neem face pack on. The market is flooding with fairness creams and products exclusively formulated for men and stars like Shahrukh Khan, John Abraham, and Shahid Kapur do not mind endorsing fairness creams, and not to mention hoardes of “similarly” smelling deodarants and roll-ons. Not that all men were ignorantly blissful about looking good and smelling right, there were a handful of them, who were very conscious about their looks and appearance, and one of them is my father. My father has served in the Air Force as an officer for 30 odd years and as far as I can stretch my memory, I have never seen my father repeating a shirt for more than two days in a row or with unkempt hair (he is semi bald though). Even now, he keeps a separate cabinet, where he stores his personal care items such as Fair and Lovely (yes that pink one), Listerine mouthwash, Vaseline body lotion, Johnson’s and Johnson’s ear buds, Sensodyne toothpaste, deodorants, talcum powder, etc. He never likes to be seen without dye in his hair. So, you can imagine how much I turn my nose up looking at unkempt guys and those with severe BO and MO. Fortunately, I married someone who had no BO or MO issues, otherwise, life would have been much more difficult.

This is a pamphlet that came in today’s local newspaper, think of metrosexualism reaching into every nook and corner of India.

Okay, coming back to my father, my dad is someone who feels uncomfortable with dry skin. He does not like to apply cold cream on his face, so he is one of the few men who do not mind applying Fair and Lovely and that too with much glee. He likes Fair and Lovely because it dissipates the stretchy feeling he says. There is a funny incident that I associate with his love for “Fair and Lovely.” Actually, around 3 years ago, following a brain stroke, my father was hospitalized in the ICU of Military Hospital for 16 days (so many days in the ICU because he refused to get shifted/transferred to the Medical Ward of the hospital because the nurses in the Medical Ward weren’t as pretty as the ICU ones!!!!!). One day, while I was visiting him in the ICU, he told me, “beta, get me a nail cutter tomorrow, see how long my toenails have grown, and what will these nurses think!!!!….and ask them to give me a shave too, and oh don’t forget to get my Fair and Lovely!!!!!).” I was smiling and grinning thinking he didn’t mind being severely ill, but he did mind about his grown toenails, stubble, and “Fair and Lovely.”

I am sure my dad is not the only one with the Fair and Lovely addiction, there are so many of them, and fairness creams like “Emami Fair and Handsome” has come as a blessing for them. My dad has chucked out the pink “Fair and Lovely” and he is so happy with his “Fair and Handsome” now that he usually stocks up two to three packs at any given time.

I have seen two variants of the same fairness cream, the first one is a little larger white package that says “Fair and Handsome with Unique 5-Power Formula for Tough Male Skin” where as the second one is comparatively smaller and the cover says “Fair and Handsome Now Stronger with Lumino Peptide for faster glowing fairness.” I checked the manufacturing date of both packs to find out whether there was a long gap between the two creams, but no, the larger pack says 03/10 as the manufacturing date and the other one has mentions 06/10. So, I am kind of presenting both the packs.

Starting with the first package, which says “Unique 5-Power Formula”, here are the details.

WHAT FAIR AND HANDSOME WITH UNIQUE 5-POWER SAYS:

Emami, in collaboration with Activor Corp, USA, herbalists and dermatologists from India, has created a unique fairness cream for men with a breakthrough “Unique 5 Power” Formula to make skin fair and handsome in just 4 weeks.

UNIQUE 5-POWER FORMULA FOR MEN:

1. Double-strength peptide complex: This wonder molecule patented in the USA effectively penetrates tougher male epidermis to regulate melanin production.

2. Sunguard: Revolutionary double power sunguards counter overexposure of male skin to sun and protect it from harmful UV rays.

3. Anti-Bactiplus: Breakthrough anti-bacterial agents actively protect skin against pollution and dark shadows caused by daily shave, nicks, and cuts.

4. Stressbuster: Sensational nutra-complex relieves stress and fatigue signs. Removes dead cells and rejuvenates skin.

5. Herbocool: A unique combination of refreshingly cool herbs like Vetiver, Mint, and Liquorice makes skin fair and fresh with a pleasant cooling sensation.

PRICE:

Rs. 68 for 60 mL.

WHAT FAIR AND HANDSOME WITH LUMINO PEPTIDE CLAIMS:

Emami Fair n Handsome
Emami Fair n Handsome

Emami, in collaboration with Activor Corp, USA, herbalists and dermatologists from India, has created a unique fairness cream for men with a breakthrough fast action Lumino Peptide to make skin fair and handsome in just 3 weeks.

5-ACTION FAIRNESS SYSTEM FOR TOUGH MALE SKIN:

  • Fast action Lumino Peptide: Unique Lumino Peptide Complex effectively penetrates deep into tough male skin, making it fairer in just 3 weeks.
  • UV Block: Zinc Oxide protects skin from pigmentation caused by exposure to UVA/UVB rays, dirt and pollution.
  • Mark Free: Aloe Vera removes blemishes caused by shaving cuts and bruises.
  • Protein Booster: Smoothens skin, improves texture, reduces wrinkles, and restores skin elasticity.
  • Glow Plus: Skin nourishing agents like Vitamin E and A make the skin glow more than ever before.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Apply on face and neck twice daily after cleansing for faster glowing fairness. Regular usage recommended for best results.

PRICE: Rs. 40 for 30 g.

This pack has also a very useless and ineffectual shadometer that shows how your skin tone would become fairer from week 1 to week 3, it is only a marketing gimmick and nothing more.

Both the packs also state that compared to women’s skin, male skin is:

  • 3 times more exposed to sun’s UV rays.
  • 5 times more exposed to pollution.
  • 2 times more exposed to stress factors.
  • Daily exposed to harsh shaving blades.

No wonder, women’s skin products don’t work effectively on male skin.

Both the packages have the same list of ingredients, I wonder what’s the difference between them.

MY DAD’S EXPERIENCE WITH EMAMI FAIR AND HANDSOME:

Though my dad is not a fan of Shahrukh Khan and hates and wonders why girls/women/ladies love him so much, he took Shahrukh Khan’s word to buy and try this F&H cream. I am not sure how many packs of F&H he has already finished because he always has had a backup and has been using it ever since Shahrukh Khan started endorsing it. Also, he finds F&H indispensable now. He says it has smoothed his skin over a period of time and gives his skin a moisturizing effect. It has not improved his complexion to a great degree, but then he is happy that there are no side effects either like dry or parched skin. Smell-wise, when I examined both, the one with 5-power unique formula had a very strong shaving cream kind of smell, but the lumino-peptide one has a very sober perfume. Upon application, both impart a cool feeling to the skin, which I assume is due to menthol. Overall, a good day cream with moisturizing effect for those men who give equal importance to appearance and grooming.

WHAT MY DAD LIKES ABOUT FAIR AND HANDSOME:

  • It gives him a matte effect and moisturizes his skin.
  • Over a period of time, he says, it has brightened his complexion.
  • The price is very reasonable he says, he can stock up on 2 to 3 packs at a time.

WHAT MY DAD HATES ABOUT FAIR AND HANDSOME:

  • When I asked him, he said, “are you kidding, absolutely nothing.”

IMMB STAR RATING:

:-* :-*:-*:-*

Well-groomed men and metrosexualism are not going to be passe anytime soon and that is good news for us wives/daughters/spouses/fiancés/girlfriends.

  3. Hey Sonia, agree with you that when the “fairness” thing goes overboard, it is bad, but no harm in being bright and radiant na…..men have no other way….they can’t have smooth skin or anything…the only thing to attract them is to make them cream make them look fairer 😀

  4. this post reminds me of my boyfriend..my boyfriend is also obsessed with his skin..he wants something that keeps his skin absolutely blemish and pimple free..i always keep suggesting him various products. he says, “ok,bring me this one.i am not going into the shop. ow,the SAs would think i am feminine and metrosexual.” so i go into the shop and do the shopping alone.  he is so shy.

    1. He he..bulbul…indeed a funny situation….but does he let you share what you bought for him if you like that particular thing???? :-))

      1. yep,he does..some days ago,he purchesed( or i purchased) the Garnier pimple-control pen..it was my suggestion however.. 😛 he was not happy with that thing and he gave me that one..it saved my 100 bucks and it’s really useful in emergency.. 😀 😀
now he is using clean & clear exfoliating face wash and he is v-e-r-y happy. 🙂

    1. Thanks Alexandra :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy: ……I have been loving SRK since so many ages, I thought I would marry someone like Raj from DDLJ, but ended up marrying someone like Amrish Puri 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

  5. Hahaha your dad agreed to do this ? 😛 so sweet!

    1. Hey Gia….he agreed to this…..but he told me, “don’t write anything bad about it.” he was worried whether Emami would stop manufacturing F&H if the review was negative……………. 😀 😀 😀 😀

        1. Hey Neha,…….. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*. My son is very naughty….he has taken a liking to beating up little boys with spoons and shouting at them…just like me :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy:

  6. OMG I am totally adding NO MO, NO BO to my list of Mr. Right…
    I literally ROFLD when I read that 😀 😀 😀 😀
The way you describe your dad, really reminds me of mine who is very well groomed and has been even before this whole ‘metrosexual’ revolution.
I am glad to hear he’s doing good 🙂

I have to say that I am really cynical when it comes to fairness creams, and am surprised that this works so well!
    Great review

    1. Hey Devie……..really glad that you liked the review :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy:. Please do add Nooooooooooo MO and BO guys to your Mr. Right list…..you know we need to shun out MO/BO guys from this world……its really untolerable….I get headaches with those kind of smells…… 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮

  7. You know my mum used to always complain to my had that he doesn’t use anything on his face other than the soap. And I have got a hubby who reminds me so much of my dad. I am still shocked how he ever started using the body shop’s cleanser. 😯

You know you are lucky that your dad and hubby take care of themselves, it saves you from day to day irritations. 😛

Honestly, i have “kind of” given up now… 😐 😐

    1. Lol…I wouldn’t worry too much if I was you…seems like you’re finishing your dad and hubby’s quota!
      j/k 😛

There’s a real upside to living with metrosexual men though. I use up a lot of my brother and dad’s body washes and colognes. It makes my older brother VERY mad… he says it’s ‘weird’ for me to wear that smell.
What I think is weird is the fact that my brother owns “eye cream”… I’m sure all hell will break lose when he figures someone has been using his eye cream as a moisturizer…. 😛

Anyone else got any “sharing” stories? Would love to hear…!

      1. Hey Devie, now that you confessed about using your brother’s and dad’s cologne… 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 I am also admitting that I too use my dad’s colognes sometimes but in mild quantity……and my dad gets so worked up about it….he sometimes hides also 😀 😀 😀 😀

    2. Hey Rati… 😛 😛 😛 😛 “mum complained to my Had””…you know I find it so so cute when you make spelling mistakes such as “node” area, and now this……    …..but what did you do…when I missed just a word in a sentence…..you, that wicked RAds and HD, placed a doubt on my gender itself.. :female: :male: :female: :male: :female: :male:

  8. :reallyangry: what happened to MAC?????? I know Dell keyboards are bad bad…..one drop of water falls on them….and they conk up :-X

  9. oh oh….someone was so happy about getting a MAC book from phoren….. :snicker: :snicker: :snicker: :snicker: :snicker: :snicker: was even looking down on us lesser mortals using Dell desktops…. :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug:

  10. BTW, I heard your registered a “missing complaint” for your “maternity bra” in the local police chowki….. :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy: :silly:

      1. wohooooooooooo…..you are putting the blame on Ikky for stealing your MB, isnt it????? :handcuffs: :handcuffs: :handcuffs: :handcuffs: :handcuffs: :handcuffs: :handcuffs:

        1. oh nooo not Ikky, I think ogres don’t need MBs. There is someone who hss a son named Aarohan. I am quite suspicious that she stole it since her obsession towards my MB was getting way too much. And it would be quite useful to her. :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

          1. Hey Poutmati….I didn’t steal your MB :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X ….maybe you should get your “node” area checked :snicker: :giggle: :snicker: :giggle:

            1. All the proofs say that you did…oh my GOd!!Jomol, you should have just asked me to send one to you, I would have gladly sent a pair…But you stole?? :pain:

  11. Wonder where Rads is….maybe she went to the Men’s Parlour to get hair straitening and “Meni”cure. :giggle: :snicker: :giggle: :snicker: :giggle: :snicker: …where are you Rads????

        1. We are looking tired because we all got up at 5 or 6 AM in the morning and did all our daily chores and finished cooking too……people who got up at 11 a.m. will definiately be amused :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug:

      1. Yeah, you are stinking :doctor: :doctor: :doctor: :doctor: Rads….at least do dant manjan for our sake….

      1. So true Jomol!! He is so damn conscious about his skin!! I bought some 4 types of pimple creams just for him!! 😯 😯 😯 ….and some anti-pimple face wash too. I have been blessed with almost pimple free skin till date…. 🙂 🙂 🙂 ..That is one place I can feel a bit proud of!! 😀 :shy: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump:

  15. Nice review…
My BF uses fair and lovely for Men and used to use Fair and lovely before Men’s Fairness creams were introduced in the Market..

I really don’t understand his obsession with fairness :teeth: ..He is almost pink(Think Vanilla ice cream with a hint of strawberry cream) :pig2: :pig2: …And yet he would not leave home without putting on loads of that fairness cream on himself.. :reallyangry: :reallyangry:

Sometimes he gets late for classes because he wastes too much time in 4nt of the Mirror .. :reallypissed:

What say ppl?Should I take him for a mental check up?
Because if this doesn’t stop,I’d be needing one in near future…..

    1. Hey Minnie………long time no C…… 🙁 …..BTW, I think those men who use Fair and Lovely use it because they do not wanna go out with dry parchy skin and moreover I think your BF does that to impress you!!!!! 😉 😉 😉 😉

    2. Hey Min-minnnie….the way you described your BF as icecream with strawberry cream :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: ……I don’t think he is doing anything unusual….he just wants to keep you patoaed……………. 😀

  17. Hi, I’m a 27yr old male and I know many people using “Emami Fair and Handsome” but sorry to say that I haven’t any clear idea will this product worked for very dark skin people. I think “Fair and handsome” and many other skin whitening products are helpful for brown skin people. So, if a person is too dark skin then the chances for that are very low. This product is good for brown men who had lighter skin but became darker over the years, so this will help you to bring back to what you originally were and a little glow seems like you’ve gotten much lighter, but as for the dark skin people and Black African people I don’t believe there is any product that can make your skin lighter because it is your natural skin. There is another way for black people to get lighter their skin tone like surgery or bleaching cream. Bleaching Cream is another fairness cream and it is best to find out more about this from online.

  18. Hey nice review, I wish to type in few words of my exp with Fair & Handsome. few years back I was given some strong pills for a throat infection which resulted in facial marks. Though the pain and itching went off after Counter Medicines still the marks stayed on. That was when SRK first endorsed Fair & Handsome.
I was first so ashamed to use it coz our buddys usual laugh at guyz who use any cream, but I went on to use it after few weeks the marks went off and I felt I got a fairer and even skin tone. Since then I am using it for 7 years now. I don’t think I have become a white but it removes tan and keeps face bright and even. Certainly gives an advantage in looks when compared to other guys who have tanned dull look.
