Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre Review

I tried not to have high expectations from this product, I really did. But repeatedly reading about it being hailed as a must-have by makeup artists and favorite bloggers really didn’t help.  If you are not familiar with the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre, well, it’s basically a moisturizer, but it can be used in other ways too.

Product Details (from the official website):

The must-have product for makeup artists, models and celebrities. A cult favorite that has found its way onto countless photo shoots, television and film sets internationally. This creamy lotion is three products in one: primer, moisturizer, and make-up remover. Its formula remains extremely simple and effective with nourishing ingredients that restores the skin’s natural glow and gives a boost to tired dehydrated skin.

Aqua. Paraffinum Liquidum. Stearic Acid. Glyceryl Stearate. Triethanolamine. Cera Alba. Cetyl Palmitate. Butyrospermum Parkii. Steareth-10. Polyacrylamide C13-14 Isoparaffin. Laureth-7. Propylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Aloe Barbadensis. 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol. Tropolone. Parfum.

Price:

28 USD for 75 ml.

I discarded the box this came in, which had the description and everything, so I have posted those above. Besides the 75 ml size, it’s also available in 30 ml.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre

This moisturizer is packaged in an aluminum squeeze-tube with a screw-on cap. I like the aluminum tube. It feels old school.

The Lait-Crème Concentre has a light, creamy floral scent. I do not find it bothersome and the smell fades quickly.  The texture of it is thin and sort of watery, and because of that, a small amount is easy to spread over a relatively wide area of the face, for example, the forehead. So, usually, I use just three small dots of this for the whole face.

The Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre has the littlest bit of an oily feel on my skin. After I have applied it, my skin has a dampness to it. You know how some moisturizers leave your skin simply feeling smooth, or soft? Well this one, besides making the skin smooth and supple, also leaves it feeling kind of dewy and plump, almost.

My skin type right now is dry. I like the way my skin feels after applying the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre. But I find that the extra dry areas on my face, like my nose and upper lip (flakey from constant wiping due to a cold), aren’t helped and become dry again a short while after applying this moisturizer. The rest of my face tends to feel dry again after about 4 hours. Plus points for it though for not irritating my sensitive skin. No itching, redness, and thankfully, no breakouts.

This cream may feel heavy in hot, humid weather. It’s pretty much summer here, but I find it tolerable as long as I use just a small amount.

As a makeup primer, I find that it’s not bad at all. It makes the texture of my skin a little more even, so base makeup applies more smoothly. My makeup lasts longer too. It doesn’t make my skin oil up, so makeup doesn’t slide off or melt into a mess. I also like mixing a little bit of it in liquid foundation to give the foundation a dewier finish and a more moisturizing feel. As for using it as makeup remover, I haven’t done that nor do I plan to. Right now, I like using Bioderma Sensibio just fine.

Now, if you’ll check the ingredients list, you’ll see that this contains mineral oil. There’s been some debate as to whether or not mineral oil has negative effects on the skin. I don’t have a stance on that, just my experience with most moisturizers that contain mineral oil is that they’re not hydrating enough for my dry skin. It’s consistent with this product – some areas on my skin don’t get moisturized enough and I don’t find its moisturizing properties to be long-lasting.

Pros of Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre:

  • Skin feels hydrated, plumped up upon application.
  • Texture is thin, with a slip to it, so a small amount spreads over wide areas.
  • Preps skin well for makeup application; also helps makeup last longer.
  • Multipurpose.
  • It’s gentle, doesn’t irritate or cause breakouts my skin.
  • Doesn’t make my skin oil up.
  • Light scent.
  • Cute tube.

Cons of Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre:

  • I don’t find its effects long-lasting.
  • The drier parts of my face don’t get adequately moisturized.
  • Some may dislike the dewiness it gives the skin.
  • May feel heavy in humid or hot climates.

Would I Repurchase Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre?

Probably not.

IMBB Rating:

3/5

While it’s a multipurpose product that perks up the skin upon application, the effect doesn’t last long and it’s not as moisturizing as I wanted it to be. It’s not glow and hydration in a tube—in fact, at its core, I find to be a pretty basic cream that lightly moisturizes. I wouldn’t really recommend it for those with dry skin, or to oily skin types either. I think those that will like this best are people with no moisture/oil issues, i.e. those with normal skin.
