Essence 2-in-1 Kajal Pencil – Toffee and Sweets Review

Essence 2-in-1 Kajal Pencil – Toffee and Sweets Review

As I grew up, I started disliking pencil liners because you need to sharp them for a fine tip, they smudge, are not intense, etc. Liquid liner application leaves me shaking in my boots; so my only option is left with felt-tip liners, but with various colours to try within kajal pencils, I thought to give it a chance – rather one last chance. Did Essence 2-in-1 Kajal Pencil-Toffee & Sweets convinced me to spend on pencil liners?

My Take on Essence 2-in-1 Kajal Pencil – Toffee and Sweets:

Let’s start with the look of the pencil; definitely it’s elegant. A dual-end sharpen-able pencil, colored dually as of the color of the kajal it houses. They have called the golden color as “toffee” and the dark brown as “sweets.”

Describing separately, the toffee shade is soft in texture, caramel golden shade with shiny finish. The lead pieces break in between if you apply a little bit of pressure. It glides on upper lid easily, but still several swipes are required to build the intensity.  It doesn’t smudge at all, comes off when I rub my eyes and stays for about say 2.5 hours, after which I notice it fades evenly, losing its charm, but doesn’t vanish completely. On water line, it looks fabulous; opens up eyes giving them a wide look.

Coming to the shade “Sweets,” the dark brown one, it is not soft at all. The texture is hard and difficult to apply. Several swipes needed, with pressure, to build an intense line. Smudges a little over the hours, stays for about 3 hours and after which I noticed it to fade evenly, but didn’t completely vanish till I wiped it out. It comes off with the rub easily too. On water line, it showed the color quite easily in contradiction to the upper lid and gave a deeper look to the eyes. Both the shades don’t sting eyes when applied on water line. (I have very sensitive eyes; even Maybelline Colossal kajal stings me badly).

I tried my best to catch the eye look swatches but saved file by mistake in poor quality, and by the time it was evening, no day light and I was tired, lazy and shivering of cold to re-apply and take fresh pictures. After all, I am surviving in minus celsius for the first time in my life :p

Pros of Essence 2-in-1 Kajal Pencil – Toffee and Sweets:

  • The toffee shade is soft in texture and doesn’t smudge.
  • Decent staying time.
  • On waterline, both shades work differently; toffee gives a wide open eye look and sweets gives a deep eye look.
  • Both shades are beautiful, when used in combination will make a fabulous eye look.
  • Nice packaging.
  • Low price tag.

Cons of Essence 2-in-1 Kajal Pencil – Toffee and Sweets:

  • Sweets shade’s texture is hard and difficult to apply.
  • Pigmentation is not impressive; both shades call for several swipes to intensify the line.
  • Sweet shade smudges a bit.
  • Though price tag is low, but Essence can still improve the texture and pigmentation if not the staying time.

IMBB Rating:

2.5/5 (1.5 for Toffee and 1 for Sweets).

Do I Recommend/Will I Repurchase Essence 2-in-1 Kajal Pencil – Toffee and Sweets?

Well, I haven’t been able to get anything from ELF cosmetics or NYC. I have just tried Essence and MUA in budget-friendly drugstore brands, and I would conclude that MUA is far better than Essence! So, I shall be grabbing MUA eyeliners as final try to settle with pencil liners. I won’t repurchase Essence and I don’t recommend it too.
