Essence #59 Funky Funky Sheer Shiny Lipstick Review

This brand, Essence, is one of the most easily available and affordable makeup brands in India. I have tried a couple of products from their line, like eye shadows, blush, lipsticks and nail polish. I can confidently say that it is a good brand for college students, who are on a budget and want something to satisfy their love for makeup. Well, why not go ahead and throw some light on their Shiny Sheer Lipstick in Funky Funky (59) and see how it performs!

My Experience with Essence #59 Funky Funky Sheer Shiny Lipstick:

Packaging:
The packaging is quite simple. It is a shiny, light purple colored, plastic lipstick roll-on. When you open the cap, the lipstick portion of the roll-on is transparent. On that transparent portion ‘Essence’ is printed. On top of the cap, letter ‘e’ is embossed that depicts Essence. At the bottom, a sticker label with other details has been stuck. Packaging is sturdy and plastic will not crack on hitting the ground. I left it in my purse and forgot; still the cap did not come off. The cap closes with a click sound, which looks fragile, but does not yield to normal applied pressure. Application wise, the lipstick shape is same as others, pointed tip and slanted flat cut through the product. Amount of the product by weight is 4g.

Texture:
As soon as you open the cap, you can smell the sweet aroma coming. It is non-edible, mild, sweet fragrance. The lipstick is very hydrating. I have used it in place of lip balm many times. I can compare the hydration level to Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Awakening Lip Balm. What irritates a little is the amount of shimmer in it. This shimmer does not look bad, but feels very irritating, sometimes even itchy. When you purse your lips together, you will be able to feel the shimmer particles. One has to be careful while eating. Do not end up eating all the shimmer. Otherwise, I feel this lipstick is performing very well. It glides smoothly; no stickiness.

Pigmentation:
As suggested by the company, these are very sheer. There is just a hint of purple color in it, only fine shimmers. That’s all it has! When you put it on lips, it looks very attractive. A glow on lips can make your skin and face look healthier. I like sheer lipsticks because if I want pigmentation I will go for stains and not lipsticks. Perfect for day wear, any weather!

Staying Power:
It stays for 4-5 hours. No transfer problem. No stained, dirty teeth. No bleeding problem. The only problem is that when your lipstick wears off, the shimmer may smear out side/inside your lips. You have to take care of that.

Would I Recommend Essence #59 Funky Funky Sheer Shiny Lipstick?
Yes, only those who can bear shimmer on their lips. I am a moody person, and can sometimes like it, sometimes I cannot stand it. Overall, I like this little lipstick. Only if Essence takes out the shimmer and leaves a sheer shine, I am telling you it can give Dior Lip Balm (INR 1940) a tough competition, that too within INR 180. What does the lipstick lover inside you say?
