Skin/Hair Type: Oily and occasionally acne-prone/Normal Hair
Hello gorgeous ladies,
Lipsticks are my weakness! 😛 A pretty plumy lipstick is definitely up my alley! With Essence launching some new lipsticks in the “Sheer and Shine” range, I have now added a few new ones to my collection. So today, I am going to review a fairly new lip product by Essence called Essence Sheer and Shine Lipstick in “All About Cupcake.” That’s such an adorable name, I must say!!
Sheer love! This new smooth and lightweight lipstick provides a moisturizing wash of color and shine. Buildable color with every swipe.

My Experience with Essence All About Cupcake Sheer and Shine Lipstick:
Packaging: Essence has really upped their packaging game lately. The “Sheer and Shine” lipsticks come in silver shiny bodies with the cover in the shade of the lipstick which is semi-transparent. The packaging is simple, cute and I like that the tube of the lipstick represents the lipstick shade. The packaging is plastic, but a considerable upgrade from the old Essence lipstick tubes. The Essence logo is carved on the lipstick bullet which looks really high-end.
Color: These are the new “Sheer and Shine” lipsticks by Essence are described as soft and sheer colour payoff with a pleasantly light feeling on the lips. The lipsticks will provide your lips with a subtle colour and a fantastic shine. The shade “All About Cupcake” is a nice sheer light pink shade with warm undertones which will suit most Indian complexions. It does turn pink on my lips which I like.
Pigmentation: Since these lipsticks are named “sheer,” the pigmentation is not the greatest. It just has a sheer flush of colour with considerable shine. I would say the pigmentation is like a lip balm.
Texture: These lipsticks are really glossy and shiny. The formulation is quite lightweight and feels like nothing on the lips. They do not tug or pull during application and are actually quite hydrating. Since I love matte lipsticks, normally I don’t like this finish in a lipstick, but in a n*de sheer lipstick like this, it’s quite nice actually.
Longevity: I cannot expect much longevity out of a sheer lipstick with shine! I would say this baby stays on the lips for about 2-3 hours after which it loses shine and starts to fade away. Reapplication is required throughout the day just like lip balms.
Pros of Essence All About Cupcake Sheer and Shine Lipstick:
- Sturdy and fancy packaging with Essence logo carved on the bullet.
- Beautiful shade.
- Hydrating on the lips.
- Very comfortable on the lips.
- Not sticky whatsoever.
- Beautiful shade selection.
- The perfect amount of shine.
- Suitable for most Indian skin tones.
- Super affordable.
- Easily available online and in drugstores.
Cons of Essence All About Cupcake Sheer and Shine Lipstick:
- Very sheer colour payoff.
- Not long-lasting at all.
- Not available in India.
Would I Recommend/Repurchase Essence All About Cupcake Sheer and Shine Lipstick?
I think Essence has done a fair job on these new lipsticks, the formula is good and I really like the shade selection. But if you are expecting a creamy lipstick with great longevity, then this one is not for you. To explain it in short, I would say it’s just a glorified version of a lip balm with a little less hydration as compared to a lip balm. If this description intrigues you, then there’s no harm trying out some shades at such an affordable price. I am sure not going to repurchase this.

The lipstick bullet looks soooo good 🙂
Oh yes Jomol 🙂 That’s how I fell for this product! It looks really pretty and not like regular lipsticks 🙂
Agreeing with Jomol about the packaging 🙂 but from the review it doesn’t sound as if its worth the hassle and from the pics, the color payoff is really bad :/
Totally agree with you Pavithra….The lipstick is really pretty and pocket friendly, but I only wish it had an opaque and creamy colour pay-off like the bullet looks. I know that Essence named it “Sheer and Shine” but this baby is way too sheer to show up o Indian Skin!
