Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base Review

Hi Girls!

I am back with a review of the Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base. These days, I am using eyeshadows quite often and therefore, experimenting with different eyeshadow bases. Although my favorite is UDPP, I want to use that sparingly since it’s so difficult to buy it. I was on the lookout for a cheaper creamy shadow base and this fit the bill perfectly.

Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base Review

Price:

3 euros for 4 ml.

Product Description:

The “I Love Stage” eyeshadow base has to get on stage! It can be applied diversely either as primer for concealers or eye shadows. The creamy texture does not crease, makes the eye shadow last longer and appear much more color intensive. For an even eye make-up waiting for its gig on stage!

Packaging:

Comes in a sleek tube with a doe-foot applicator and looks very similar to the MAC Select Moisture Cover Concealer.  Its easy to apply the base with the applicator.

Texture:

The texture as it claims is really creamy and not very thick unlike the MAC Paintpots.  It’s very easy to spread this on the lids with fingers or using a brush and it blends smoothly to a matte finish.

My Experience with Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base:

This base comes in only one shade, which is not a good thing. I would have loved it if they offered these in a shimmery finish as well and also in darker shades.

Anyway, I think this is a very decent base for the price. It is no UDPP – make no mistake about that, but it’s a poor man’s UDPP for sure. It spreads very easily and blends like a dream to a matte finish. The best part is – it does not cast that stupid white film on the eyes, which I find MAC Painterly does at times.

As far as making colors pop – I don’t think it scores high in that department. I have not found the colors to appear more vibrant with the use of this shadow.

Staying Power:

As I mentioned, it’s a poor man’s UDPP, so while UDPP makes eyeshadows last forever, this one only works for about 5-6 hours, which I think is pretty decent. After that, my eyeshadow starts fading. However, this does not crease at all. It works better with neutral colors than dark ones.

IMBB Rating:

4/5

Overall Verdict:

I would say I like it for its light texture, blendability, and natural matte finish. I have taken away points because of the staying power. If you are looking for cheap eyeshadow bases for regular use to save the more expensive ones for special occasions, then definitely give this a try. It delivers on most of its claims and the price is to die for!

  1. You are so right about the white cast Mac painterly leaves. i wish it was available in India. There are no good affordable eyeshadow primers here.

    1. Yeah Surbhi, Painterly makes shadows last like crazy but I am not a huge fan of the texture. But I guess Colorbar and Nyx bases are now available on online sites, arent they? I don’t know how they are though.

      1. NYX eyeshadow bases are available online. 🙂 Then we have faces. metalliglow primer. i have faces one. it works to some extent, but nothing like mac painterly. nyx wala i heard that it creases. but still these are good affordable options. 🙂
