I have recently purchased few products from Essence and I am so enjoying them. I love to try out volumising mascaras and so I picked up this Essence Maximum Volume Mascara. But it couldn’t fulfil my high expectations. Read on for more details.

My Experience with Essence Maximum Volume Mascara:
Packaging:
The mascara comes in a nice metallic green plastic tube with all the details. It looks very sleek and pretty. The cap is airtight and never leads to leakage. I really like this lightweight product which is easy to carry around. The applicator (wand) is the most attractive part of this mascara. The wand has a very unique flat oval shape from one side and looks flatter from the other side. This wand has small fiber bristles which work perfectly on the lashes. I have never experienced any problem with the brush during application.
Shade:
This mascara comes in only one shade – black, and it’s a nice black shade. But it’s not exactly a super jet black shade. It can provide natural black lashes and looks nice on my brown eyes. The shade is ok for daily use. But it does not appear very pigmented in one coat; more coats are always required.
Quality and texture:
I always prefer mascaras with medium-creamy consistency, but the consistency of this mascara is little thick-creamy (which doesn’t show on hand swatches). Also, on the lashes, a few coats are required for the best results to show up. But it smoothly glides on my lashes and feels extremely light on them. It generally doesn’t clump with normal application but if I want dramatic lashes with more coats, then layering makes my lashes clumpy.
It doesn’t dry out quickly so application is quite easy. It can cover all my lashes, even my lower lashes, easily. The bristles make reaching even the smallest, shortest lashes possible. And they define my lashes nicely. My lashes don’t look patchy after application, but it is better to apply two to three coats for best results. The final results is soft and natural looking eyelashes.
Even as a “maximum volume” mascara, it can’t provide dramatic volume to my lashes. It’s just an okay mascara which provides average volume. Basically it makes my lashes longer but not dramatic. Without any lash curler, it can’t lift my lashes and it also can’t hold my curl for long. It definitely makes my lashes appear longer and bigger but the overall look isn’t dramatic. I was expecting more volume from this but it failed to provide that good volume. The formula is neither smudge-proof nor waterproof. It just melts with a splash of water which I do not appreciate at all. I only prefer to wear waterproof mascaras because I sweat like a pig. After a hot day, the mascara looks a little messy.
Staying Power:
It stays on for around 6-7 hours on my lashes, but it can’t hold my lashes for long. After 4-5 hours, it weighs down my lashes. So this mascara is not great for a long party. But it is so easy to remove this mascara as you just need a normal wet wipe. It is actually a washable mascara.
Overall:
I have mixed emotions about this mascara. It’s a nice one for casual use because super waterproof mascaras sometimes make eyelashes dry. But this one keeps my eyelashes so soft even after applying three coats. It is a pretty affordable, daily-wear mascara but wish it provided more volume.

• Is neither waterproof nor smudgeproof
• Staying power could have been better

Will I Repurchase/Recommend Essence Maximum Volume Mascara?
No as I prefer waterproof and volumizing mascaras. I won’t recommend this mascara either. If you are looking for a great volumizing mascara, skip this one.

Essence has so many mascaras to choose from and it’s hard to pick one. It doesn’t look voluminous at all 🙁
