My Experience with Essence Metal Shock Nail Powder 01 Mirror, Mirror on the Nail:

The product comes in a tiny cardboard box which is sealed. The seal on the box ensures that it has not been tampered. There is some basic information on the box. Once you open the box, there is a small, transparent, round plastic box which has the nail powder. This box is also sealed and this prevents any spilling of the powder. There is the name and the shade on the plastic cap. The box looks a bit cheap and feels like it is made with inferior plastic. The screw cap can be closed tightly. But, one of the biggest issue with this nail powder is that, if it is not kept upright, then there is a lot of chances for the powder to settle in the crease and that causes a lot of mess. Even when opening, there is a lot of fallout.

The powder has minute silver particles and they are very soft. They are sticky and cling onto everything. The application can be real messy and you need to use a newspaper in a free area, if you don’t want the silver shine everywhere. The application is easy. Apply a base coat/light color of your choice first, then, use your fingers/brush dipped in the powder and rub onto your nails until desired effects are achieved. You can see the mess it has created in the picture. Mind that it is only for one nail. There is a lot of wastage that occurs but, since I use fingers, I pick up the product and rub onto the nails again. The more you rub the product, the more silver chrome effect it creates. The finish is great. The product helps you to create silver chrome nails at a price so friendly to your pocket.

Even though it sounds easy, you need a lot of practice to achieve the salon-like look. If the base is even 0.1% wet, the application can be a disaster and the product will not cling onto the nail. The product creates mirror finish only on a transparent or very light nail color. I have noticed that it works well with all the top/base coats from essence but, when I use a different brand the finish is not so perfect! The product sometimes do not create the perfect chrome nails and it feels a bit see through. You need to seal the powder with a water based top coat. Essence has a top coat made for this purpose and I will review it soon.

If not sealed, the silver particles can get everywhere and it is a bit dangerous, if you eat with your hands. When sealed, the nail effects stay for around 5 days. The shine lasts 3-4 days and it starts to fade. The product do not peel or chip off like regular nail polishes. It can be easily removed too with a good nail polish remover. I usually wait for the nails to dry after the application of top coat and then wash my hands thoroughly to get rid of any residue.
