I recently stumbled upon some new products from Essence. I picked up lipsticks, lip liners and eyeliners. Today’s review is all about ‘Essence Kisses from the Orient Metallic Lipstick’. Read on to know more.

My Experience with Essence Metallic Lipstick 02 Kisses from the Orient:
The product comes in a dark maroon plastic cap with golden highlights. The lipstick’s body is golden in color. There is no seal, but if you open the cap, you can clearly see if it has been used or not. The color of the cap denotes the shade inside. The cap closes with a click. I personally like the golden packaging and it kind of gives a high-end brand feeling to it.
There is very little information on the packaging and you need to look up for more details. Packaging wise, the product steals my heart. There are 2 metallic lipsticks available in this range and I picked them both. Other than this, there are matte shades, and since I had them already, I decided to give them a skip.
‘Kisses from the Orient’ is a dark berry toned shade. It contains golden shimmery particles for the metallic effect. I assume that the gold case denotes this golden shimmers. It smells pleasant and stays on for a while. I usually swatch the shades on my hands and do not apply to the lips.
When I swatched, I absolutely loved the color. It had a berry-magenta tone and I found it perfect for my skin tone. However, after I used it at home, I feel it is more of a dark plum-berry shade. I didn’t like the difference and also since I have pigmented lips, I feel it makes it look a little darker and doesn’t make my complexion pop. The lipstick is creamy and glides very well onto the lips. It has a glossy finish and you can feel that oiliness like finish.
I personally like matte lipsticks but wanted to give this one try but looks like I am not so fond of glossy finish. The product doesn’t have a moisturizing effect but it doesn’t dry the lips either. However, application of the lipstick over well-scrubbed and moisturized lips is advisable.
The presence of shimmery particles gives it a good look but I hate them! The glitter particles get everywhere on my face and removing it is a big mess too. There is glitter sticking onto the lips and it takes double efforts to remove. The lipstick, being very slick, transfers easily to cups and you can clearly see the stains on the glass. The product doesn’t bleed if you have a lipliner but without one expect that the glitters will get on your chin.
The longevity of the product is very poor and it lasts for hardly an hour on my lips. With a good base and using the powder technique, I can elongate the duration to 2 hours but not more than that. This lipstick disappointed me and I judged the book by the cover in this case. I would suggest to give it a complete skip as it is not worth it.

• Feels a little heavy on lips.
