My Experience with Essence My Must Haves Eyeshadow Black Is Back:
Let’s begin with packaging of the product. The eyeshadow comes in tiny, round, black-colored plastic pan with a clear lid. The lid bears the brand’s tagline embossed on it like other regular Essence eyeshadows, but the packaging of these shadows is a bit different from other regular Essence shadow pans. These are comparatively smaller and these pans can be carried along or can be customized in an eyeshadow palette as well. This feature offers us a freedom to customize a palette with the eyeshadows of our choice, it’s travel friendly as well.
The lid of the pan closes nicely but it does not shut too tightly and may come off in your makeup pouch. The back of the pan has a small circular sticker bearing the shade name and number along with other necessary information about the product. It does not come with any applicator but this is not really a con for me, as I do not prefer using those small sponge applicators that are usually provided with such shadows. Overall, the packaging of the product is fine but the eye shadows must be packed securely if you are traveling with it, as the plastic looks quite fragile and may break.
Most of the shades in this range are very sparkly and shimmery, but there are a few matte shades as well. “Black is Back” is a matte black eyeshadow. The color is not intense black, it leans more towards graphite black kind of shade, so if you are looking for a jet black eye shadow, this is not a good choice. Though, I had observed some very fine silver micro shimmers in this eye shadow but these shimmers are so fine and sparse that they are barely visible hence this eyeshadow looks perfectly matte and free from any kind of sheen. This shade is beautiful for creating a variety of party looks. It is not a daytime shade but it looks glam when used for evening parties. It looks so beautiful when used as a lid color or sometimes I prefer using it on the outer “v” of my eyes. The formula is decently pigmented and it requires two swipes to achieve rich opaque color to the eyes.
The texture of this eyeshadow is soft and smooth. It has a velvety feel and glides effortlessly on the eyelids and it is really easy to blend the eyeshadow. It does not get patchy. The eye shadow does not have the tendency to crease. The eye shadow does not smudge. It is not waterproof and hence fades away when it comes in contact with water. The staying power is somewhere around 6 to 7 hours on my eyelids with an eye primer underneath.
