I bought a few lip liners from Essence recently. I will be reviewing all of them in the upcoming days. Essence is one brand which is very affordable, so you can get crazy and shop lot of items and get creative in trying new things. Today’s review is all about Essence Lipliner in the shade “08 Big Proposal”. Let’s see how this one fared.

My Experience with Essence Soft Contouring Lipliner 08 Big Proposal:
Packaging: The lip liner comes in a pencil form with wooden casing. It has a matching plastic cap to go with it. The color of the lip liner is mentioned on the pencil. The cap does not fit tightly to the liner. It falls off easily. I thought it might be a fault with this pencil alone, but later, I realized that it was the case with all of them. This makes it totally not travel-friendly. Since it is a wooden pencil based and not retractable, there is wastage of the product every time you sharpen it.
Shade: The color looks more like a nude for most of the Indian skin tones with slight purple undertone. Since it is a good nude, it can be pleasant on the lips especially under nude lipsticks. The color looks well with lipsticks and all by itself. It makes a nude lipstick by itself, provided you add a little moisture underneath.
Texture: The texture of the lip pencil is not at all great. It has a dry texture and is difficult to work with. One needs to rub the product for the color to be seen, which involves a lot of tugging. Since it is so dry, it does not allow the lipstick to bleed.
So, to make it work as a lip liner, you just need to line the lips and it works well. But, to make it work as a lipstick, I apply lip balm first and then fill in the lips with the pencil. I also had to reapply the lip balm every 2 hours or so, to prevent the lips from looking dry.
Staying Power: The lip liner does not get transferred easily. It stays on for around 5 hours or so. If applied as lipstick, it starts getting patchy at the end of the day. But, since it is a nude color, it is not so noticeable.
Overall, I feel that it can be a good nude lip liner, which can also be used as a nude lipstick with little bit of effort.

Cons of Essence Soft Contouring Lipliner 08 Big Proposal:
- Loose cap.
- Not travel-friendly.
- Wastage due to sharpening.
- Feels dry on the lips.

If you are a beginner and if you like to try a nude shade, then go for it, as you can use it as both liner and lipstick.
