My Experience with Essence The Velvets Eye Shadow 04 You’re The Greytest:
Packaging: The eye shadow comes in the regular essence eye shadow packaging. There is a transparent plastic pan with a label on its base indicating the shade name, number and other details about the product. The clear lid shuts securely making an audible click sound making it fit for carrying around. The transparent lid helps to easily spot the shade in my makeup stash. The brand’s tagline has been printed on it in simple black fonts. It does not come with any applicator but, this is not really a con for me, as those small sponge applicators are pretty useless. Overall, the packaging is pretty fine and I do not have any complaints about it.
Shade: The shade “You’re the greytest” is a soft ashy grey kind of shade. The eye shadow is devoid of any kind of shimmers or glitters and it is perfectly matte. The color is subtle and does not look too dramatic. The pigmentation of this eye shadow is average. It is difficult to build up the color properly, since the color mixes with skin color and gives an ugly ashy appearance. It requires multiple swipes to show up the color properly, but still, the color fades away upon blending.
Texture: The texture of this eye shadow is soft and kind of velvety smooth as its name suggests. It does not feel chalky or powdery while applying. It has a little fallout issues. The quality of the product is decent for a drugstore brand with a decent price tag. It blends effortlessly on the eyelids and does not have the tendency to crease. The eye shadow is not waterproof and easily fades away when in contact with water.
The longevity of the eye shadow is also low and is around 3 hours on my eyelids with an eye primer underneath. Hence, this shade has disappointed me.
