Today I will be reviewing an essence lipgloss which I picked up from Carrefour. I am so into n*de shades, but getting the right n*de shade for my skin tone is a challenge. I swatched this gloss on my hand before purchasing it. There were a couple of other shades: velvet rose and silky red but I really liked this colour when I swatched it and thought I got my perfect n*de shade.
Claims of the product: Matt = a must! If you love this lip trend, the velvety-matt, long-lasting lipglosses are ideal for you! The light, mousse-like texture lasts on your lips for several hours without drying them out. Particularly easy to apply thanks to the flat applicator.
PRICE AND QUANTITY: KD 1.950 (APPROX INR 410) for 4.5mL
My experience with Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Soft Nude:
This sure does have a creamy and smooth texture which I love. It smells like vanilla and is totally matt. However when I applied it on my lips the colour washed me down so badly that I looked more like a corpse. Yes I looked that dead!!! This shade is so not for me (I am NC45 in MAC). However I applied it on my mother’s lips and she also looked pale (she is NC37 in MAC).
The applicator is a rectangular shaped sponge, not a doe foot type or a q tip shaped wand. I find that the applicator is a waste because it gives an uneven application. It is better to apply the gloss with your fingers or a lip brush to get an even application.
When I applied it on my lips I saw that it was highly pigmented and projected the shade really well(though it doesn’t suite me at all), but when I rubbed my lips together the shade became much lighter and started to gather around the cupid’s bow and corners of my lips. I then had to use my fingers to distribute the product.
For review purpose I wore this on my lips and stayed home in AC and watched a movie. After an hour I checked it out in the mirror to see the staying power and was shocked to see that it had horribly faded and had again accumulated on my cupids bow. It accentuated my dry lips too. It fades and smudges badly. I then washed it off and exfoliated my lips with my homemade chocolate lip scrub and then applied this on my lips but the result was just the same. Next time I moisturised my lip well and applied this on top and I found that this just didn’t stay on my lips.
This turned out to be a complete dud product for me.
Pros of Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Soft Nude:
• Beautiful n*de for light and very fair skin toned beauties.
• I love the sweet vanilla smell.
• Really light on your lips, you feel like you haven’t worn anything on your lips.
• Totally matt.
• Lipgloss is not at all sticky.
• Smooth and creamy texture.
• Highly pigmented.
Cons of Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipgloss Matt Effect in Soft Nude:
• A big no for dusky skinned beauties.
• Washed me down very badly.
• Smudges and accentuates cracks in lips if any. Exfoliation doesn’t help.
• It claims to be long lasting!!! Seriously?!!! Staying power is horrible 1-1.5 hours maximum and then you need re application not touch ups.
• Not at all moisturising.
Will I purchase this again? No. The other shades did not attract me either.
Will I recommend this to anyone? Not really. Fair skinned beauties can give this a shot but then re-application after an hour is so tiresome.
