Do Essential Oils Sting the Skin: Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Amethy asks:

Hello!

I recently got myself a few essential oils as I heard a lot of people raving about them. Just yesterday, I added a few drops of lemongrass essential oil to my face pack and applied it. My skin started burning which I thought was common, but I got to know that it isn’t. Should I continue using it assuming the sensation is a common occurrence with the oil or should I stop using it? Do essential oils generally give tingling or burning sensation generally?

Thank you 🙂

    1. Agree with Jomo. You should dilute them.. mix them with other carrier oils. If you have to use them in concentrated form, just add a drop or two at the maximum.

  1. amethy only Lavender oil can be used directly on skin…again patch test is recommended…I use it directly on mu skin and so far I have not faced any issues…rest all EOs need to be diluted…add 12 drops (2%) to 30 ml of carrier oil and then use it..

  2. Please read about the essential oils first before using them. All oils work differently. There are a couple of articles on IMBB as well and google for more info. Check with an aromatherapy specialist before using them.
    Basic Info-
    1. Diff types of oil have diff purposes.
    2. Always dilute the essential oil with any base oil (almond, olive, grapeseed, etc). Google for more info
    3. Pregnant or lactating ladies should not use these oils.
