Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place EyeShadow Base Review

Skin type: oily eye lids
Skin color: Fair-light with yellow neutral undertones

Hello beauties,
Hope all of you are doing fine! I am here to share my latest purchase with you all from Estee Lauder which was one of my impulse purchases of late. Ever since I developed interest in eye makeup I knew, I can never work without primer or base considering my oily eye lids. In fact I noticed tremendous change in the finish and color pay off from best of the best eye shadows with or without using primer. However I am not overtly impressed with this base but it still works well for my greasy eye lids. So let’s read more about Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place EyeShadow Base!

My Experience with Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place EyeShadow Base:

The eye shadow base comes in a sleek and classy mini glass jar packaging with plastic blue cap. It does have a faint smell, nothing concerning though! However I prefer tube packaging for hygienic purpose; also the glass packaging will need little more care while handling or travelling.

The eye shadow base appears neutral peachy beige base to me, while it also reminds me of Urban Decay Primer Potion, except for the fact that UDPP is bit softer and creamier, and it does not feel dry on eyes. I mean the base easily spreads on skin with gentle dabbing motions and it soon settles down to your skin tone with that brightening effect. But somehow if you are used to wearing primer potion then you will notice the difference. It gives a bit dry matte finish which might be a turn off for drier skin beauties.
packaging

Performance wise I find it good not great again; I see it tones down the shimmery finish colors (not applicable for matte shades though) and somehow my eye makeup looks more seamless and crease free with primer potion. Not to forget I did see slight creasing and fading of my eye makeup by end of 10th hour hence 15 hours claim is a bit exaggerated to me though it is still impressive to have at least 8-10 hours of wear time with this product considering my oily eye lids.

Moreover it works wonderfully on every skin tone because it simply mattifies, and brightens the skin without imparting any drastic change in our original skin tone. I see that it can certainly hide mild dark circles or pigmentations as well, hence beauties with mild eye circles or freckles might like it but then the slightly dry finish can emphasize crow’s feet or fine lines after few hours of wear time. This tells how important it would be to hydrate the eye area well, prior to using this base.

And as I mentioned earlier I noticed slight difference in finish of my new eye shadow from Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bon collection (review soon to follow). I tried wearing same shimmery eye shadow with two different eye shadow bases and somehow I could see that primer potion won the competition with long lasting, smooth and more intense pigmented color. I even tried swatching them on hand with no primer and with the base and primer potion; the difference was well visible.

However considering my oily eye lids and its dry matte finish I have nothing to fear and I am good with this base but it can be definitely tricky for drier, ageing eyes. In fact I won’t like to get it again as I love primer potion more but if you have mild freckles, circles and oily eye lids then it can be your go-to product.

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place EyeShadow Base:

• A light-weight eye shadow base with matte finish.
• Easily spreads on eye lids with no chalky or cakey finish.
• Conceals minor dark circles and freckles as well.
• Imparts subtle brightness to eye area.
• Does make difference in eye shadow finish.
• Does enhance the longevity of eye makeup.
• Does not accentuate or aggravate oily eye lids.
• Does not feel overtly drying to my skin.

Cons of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place EyeShadow Base:

• It may be tricky for dry skin type.
• It may emphasize fine lines and/or dry patches.
• I do not approve of the 15 hours wear time claim.
• Not the best base.

IMBB Rating – 3.8/5

Well I feel it can be a boon for oily eyes and minor eye circles other than that nothing unique or worth boasting!

    1. yeah it is good for opily eye lids and probably milder dark circles as it works perfect for both concerns other than that it can be skipped.. 🙂 Thank you dipti

    1. hey nice am glad it was helpful and liked by you <3 Oh yes I always wanted to try it ever since I tried hands on eye makeup but as much I was longing for this pdt I didnt find it that worth.. especially the way it changes the finish of shimmery eye shadows not to my liking.
