Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF 10 Review
By Rosmi G.
I have been a daily reader of IMBB for the past 4 years, but could never actually pluck up the courage to actually contribute something. But finally, here is my first review. To be honest, I am quite surprised that this foundation hasn’t been reviewed yet on IMBB. It’s very famous and has a cult following, quite like MAC Studio Fix Fluid.
I saw this foundation in Boots on one of my usual shopping trips. I was using MAC Studio Fix Fluid at the time and I was quite unhappy with it as I couldn’t find the right shade for me, it simply wasn’t yellow enough. I saw this at the counter and I had seen good reviews of it on the internet, but I had this preconception that it was only for mature ladies. I went to another pharmacy and the lady asked me if I wanted to try it on, so I thought what the harm was in trying. She had no idea how to match ethnic tones, so she matched me to 6c1 – which is a very dark pink toned shade and I was like “no.” So, she gave me a sample of 6c1, 4w1 and 4w2. I tried both of them at home and 6c1 was way to dark and pink on me and 4w1 was greyish and not yellow enough. 4w2 was a tad too green. I went for holidays to India back in June and I saw this in the duty free shop and it was much cheaper than the shops. This time, I found my shade which is 3w2 cashew – a true golden brown
Keeps skin looking fabulous, breathing comfortably through heat, humidity and activity without changing colour, fading or coming off on clothes. Natural matte finish and SPF10 sunscreen to protect skin.
Normal price:€ 32.50 or Rs. 2643
Duty free price I paid: €27 or Rs. 2196
Active ingredient: titanium dioxide 4.4%
Inactive ingredients: Talc, isostearylpalmitate , silica, calcium silicate, boron nitride, methicone, trimethylsiloxysilicate, phenyl trimethicone, polymethylsilsesquioxane, methyl methacrylate crosspolymer, caprylyl glycol, adipic acid/neopentyl glycol crosspolymer, polypropylene, hexylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, [+/-]iron oxides (ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499), mica, chromium oxide greens (ci 77288), chromium hydroxide green (ci 77289), carmine (ci 75470), bismuth oxychloride (ci 77163), titanium dioxide (ci 77891).
The bottle is made with sturdy frosted glass. It has gold and black lettering and a screw-top gold cap which makes it look very elegant. The bottle comes in a dark blue cardboard box with gold writing which I threw away. The bottle is not travel friendly as it is made from glass. It has no pump, but I use the pump of my old MAC foundation on it and it works great.
My Experience with Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF 10:
My main gripe with studio fix fluid was the shade selection. This foundation has a wide range of shades (you can check out the shade table on their official website), but it was a bit hard at first because I couldn’t make sense of all the numbers and letters. Then, I figured out that in my shade 3w2 for example, the 3 denotes shade intensity. 1=Very light/fair, 2=light, 3=medium, 4=medium/dark, 5=dark and 6=very dark/deep. The w in 3w2 means warm. N=neutral tone, C=cool tone and W=warm tone. The 2 in 3w2 means the darker second colour in the warm medium skin tone range. I can guarantee you that you will find your shade. Finally, a foundation yellow enough for my dark Indian skin!
I have very oily teenage skin with acne and pigmentation marks and this foundation covers it very well. It provides medium coverage and can be built up to full without looking cakey. It stays on my skin for around 8 hours whereas MAC rubbed off everywhere in 2 hours! Also, it gives a natural matte finish and I don’t even need to powder my skin because it sets so quickly. It stays on skin like cement, never rubbing off-even on white shirts. But beware; it stays so well that you need a good makeup remover to completely remove it. I have slept with it on in the plane journey back from India and my face still looked freshly done after the 2 flights that were 13 hours in total. The texture is neither too thick nor too thin. It feels just right. It does not feel heavy at all. It contains SPF 10, but beware, it’s a physical sunscreen, so it does cause tiny bit of flash reflection. Also, I have heard dry-skinned ladies saying it clings to dry patches so be sure to moisturise well. I can’t comment on how well it works on mature skin so get a free sample and try it out first. This foundation has never broken me out. It has a bit of a strong paint-like smell which some people may find offensive. It smells exactly like Studio Fix Fluid. I personally like the smell!
You can use a stipple brush or normal brush or any tool you want to apply this foundation, but I find I get the best results when I use my fingers. It’s best if you do one area of your face at a time because the foundation sets very quickly.
Pros of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF 10:
- Medium coverage that is buildable to heavy coverage. There is another foundation in the double wear range called Double Wear Extreme that provides extremely high coverage for tattoos etc. It has been already reviewed on IMBB here.
- Not cakey.
- No need for powder, it sets quickly.
- Wears for a long time on my very oily skin and covers my imperfections.
- Not that expensive.
- Excellent shade selection, I finally found my shade!
- Adapts to your skin tone and looks natural.
- Did not break me out.
- Transfer-proof and waterproof.
Cons of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF 10:
- Wears a bit too well, you need an oil based or bi-phased makeup remover to take this off.
- Bit of a ghost-face with flash but a bit of bronzer can fix that.
- Dry-skinned ladies need to moisturise beforehand.
- Shade numbers are a bit confusing at first to understand.
- Some ladies might not like the smell.
- No pump. but you can use a MAC pump which fits perfectly.

Welcome to the IMBB family Rosmi!
The foundation is definitely HG material! Its not been reviewed on IMBB earlier coz it got launched in India fairly recently. I picked it up about a month back and was testing it.
Thanks for a nicely detailed review. I just wanted to add my 2 pence for anyone who might look up this article before buying the product. The product is indeed long lasting. Its like the Prolongwear foundation from MAC with 1 BIG significant difference: While MAC prolongwear kind of sits on the skin irrespective of how much you buff it, this one on the other hand blends into the skin providing perfect seamless coverage.
Good news is that they have added some new shades which suit the Indian skin better. I am NC 30-35 in MAC. I tested “Sand” (too pink turning my face ashy) and “Cashew” (too dark) for me, till I insisted for a more yellow based one and got this new shade “Rattan”. Its a perfect fit! *happy dance* *happy dance* *happy dance*
*thankyou* thank you kk! oh i didn’t know because i dont live in india
and i agree with your comparison of mac and estee lauder. this look and feels like skin.
rattan is 2w2 so youre light to medium warm skin 🙂 😀
you wear 2 shades lighter than me so my skin is much darker than yours. *toothpaste* i have dark golden skin and i wear nc40 in mac. and 3w2 fits me perfectly! Its great that you found your shade *pompom* i hope other poor wandering women find their shade solace in estee lauder like us lol rofl rofl rofl
Getting the right shade is half the battle won!
Just to add 1 more bit of info… It’s price here in a indian retail outlet is INR 2535.
and thanks for that info 🙂
