Hello lovely ladies,
Today, I have another product from Estee Lauder, one of my favourite makeup brands. If you have been a regular reader of IMBB, you would remember I had done a sneak preview of few of the colours I picked from this collection in January – with the hope of reviewing them for you. Unfortunately, I was not able to share the reviews with you due to health concerns. So, I am fulfilling my promise now and will review them all, starting with ‘Night Violet’. The delay in reviewing also ensured that I really got to test drive the product before I formed any opinion.
Wears for 12 hours. Sets in seconds.
This long-wearing, water-resistant eye pencil lines and defines with smooth, even color that looks fresh all day. The lightweight, creamy formula glides on effortlessly. Rich, stay-true color won’t feather or bleed. Double-ended pencil has smudger on one end, color on the other. Sharpens easily with the Estée Lauder Pencil Sharpener.
$23 in US
The pencil comes packaged in a navy blue cardboard box – just like all of their cosmetics. The pencil has nice golden detailing with a golden cap covering the product side. The other side a silicon smudger with a transparent plastic cap. The pencil is colour painted to match the shade – so a particular shade is easy to find in the stash. This does not come with a sharpener.
My Experience with Estee Lauder Night Violet Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil:
The shade Night Violet is a gorgeous jewel toned purple. It is an absolutely beautiful clean purple which is bright, but not neon. It’s an easily discernible colour. You remember my review of Bobbi Brown’s Violet Ink? That’s a purple which runs so deep that you can get away with wearing it in a conservative office as well. However, this is a bright purple – you can see the swatch, and when used in eye makeup, it’s distinct and doesn’t really drown into the black liner used on the upper lashline. There is no shimmer in this one.
The texture is smooth and creamy. There is no shimmer or glitter. I have used it on my lower waterline also and it glides smoothly and does not make my eyes water. These pencils are infused with jojoba and vitamin E to moisturize, and to help the product to glide.
The pigmentation is great, it deposits colour easily. It glides smoothly. You do not need to put in pressure to make the pigment show up on skin. The colour can be sheered out and blended to create a smokey look, or to make a base for an eyeshadow, or swiped intensely to create a defined look.
The pencil stays put pretty much the entire day till you are ready to take it off. Since it is waterproof, you will need an oil based makeup remover to take it off completely. However, do note that the intensity of the shade dims a little with the passage of time. The vibrancy comes down, but it is still distinctly visibly purple and doesn’t get muddy like some eyeliners do.
As I mentioned, you can use it as an intense colour or can blend/smudge it out. However, the window it smudges is small. If you don’t do so within seconds of application, it will settle down and set. Thus, not allowing you to blend. The silicon smudger, at the end of the pencil, is fairly decent and can be easily used to smudge the eyeliner. It is fairly effective. However, I prefer to use my Bobbi Brown pencil brush or the NARS smudger instead.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Estee Lauder Night Violet Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil:
• A gorgeous, bright violet – breathtakingly beautiful
• Impressive staying power
• Ophthalmologist tested
• Fragrance free
• Glides on smoothly
• Has intense colour payoff
• Did not cause any irritation to my eye
• Comes off easily at the end of the day with my cleansing oil
• Good mix with one matte and one sparkly shade
• Can be used to create thin line or smudged smokey eye effect
• Easy to sharpen
Cons of Estee Lauder Night Violet Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil:
• The colour intensity dips with passage of time. Do note that I have oily lids. Females who don’t have this problem will fare better in this criterion
• All shades launched in USA are not available in India
Overall, I really liked the shade as well as the texture of this product. The lasting power is also great, maybe a bit shy of the 12 hours mark. The sad bit is that all the shades launched in the USA are not available in India.

Totally agree with your wonderful review kk… Even i found this one wonderful and something to be kept in my stash permanently…. Looking lovely on ur eyes… Applies equally easily on upper water line for tightlining too
Thanks Arpita! Yesm this shade is really very pretty. And anyone who loves their purple – must try it!
Awesome review kk! I am looking for a rub proof eyeliner in pencil form. I have a bad habit of rubbing my eyes and no liner stays put 🙁 any suggestions?
Thats a tough one Jyoti! No eyeliner would really stay put if you rub your eyes!! 😉 However, I find MAC Pearl Glides are very tenacious. They stay put for a long time. The only bummer is that since they contain shimmer/sparkle – i would not advise them to be used on the waterline.
