Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum – Smells Like a Fresh Bunch of Flowers!

Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum – Smells Like a Fresh Bunch of Flowers!

By Mimosa B.

Hi Gorgeous ladies!

“Perfume is like a new dress, it makes you quite simply marvelous” – Estee Lauder

You know, ever since I was a wee little girl, I would love sneaking into my parent’s room and sit at my mum’s dressing table and admire all her beauty essentials. It was as good as Santa’s grotto. She used to love wearing vibrant makeup back in the day and our old photo albums stand testimony to that. There would be an array of bright reds, flamboyant magentas and glossy pink nail polishes and lipsticks, her blue, gold and green shades of eye shadows that she always wore with such élan, peachy blushers, compacts etc. To my recollection, I have never seen her own or wear any foundation. She stuck to her compact and was blessed with velvety flawless skin, so I guess she never really needed it. Whatever happened to poor me, I wonder?!? Other than her makeup; my attention was always on her collection of shoes and her matching oh-so stylish clutch bags in every shade possible. She totally rocked the 80s with panache! I dotingly and religiously watched her while she would get ready to go out, hoping and praying I quickly grow up and follow suit someday.

Amidst all the things I adored about my mum was unquestionably her desirable perfume collection. I particularly remember two of her favourites: Opium by Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel No. 5. I was way too little to be allowed to wear perfume, so spritzing myself was out of question for the evident reason of getting caught. Instead, I resorted to sniffing the bottles away to glory and wandering off into some obscure fantasy land. This little ritual commenced in my life around the age of 4 or 5 as I recall my brother wasn’t born then so I had ample time to while away when nothing else caught my fancy. I can’t quite remember what it was but the fragrance wafting up my nose had some strange indescribable effect on me even as a child and losing myself whilst sitting alone at mums’ dresser was like an escape for me. Now don’t ask me what I needed to get away from since I was a kid and I’m pretty sure life’s stress; relationships, money, finances etc. wasn’t the reason (gosh I wish I was a child again and wouldn’t have to deal with the complications of adulthood), but I do remember that I was a dreamer. I’d often get told off by my dad for just staring at myself in front of the mirror and day dreaming on numerous occasions. His yell would wake me from my trance and I would have no explanation (I did it mostly when I had to study and quite conveniently I would choose to sit at my desk which had a mirror in front of it). Soon the mirror came down (Thanks dad I still haven’t forgiven you for this) but my dreaming never stopped. Just like any other girl, I wanted to look pretty and don makeup but no one really paid much heed. “When I was just a little girl I asked my mother, what will I be, will I be pretty, will I be rich, here’s what she said to me. Que Sera, Sera, Whatever will be, will be, the future’s not ours, to see, Que Sera, Sera…” Looking back now, I’m glad I concentrated on studies, sports, games and all the things little girls should do as now I realize that makeup etc. for kids isn’t sensible. I guess wisdom comes with age…and so be it!

My mum has always been my idol and growing up years has seen me through so many fond memories. Talking of memories, that’s what I wanted to get at. As I look back on my blossoming years, it dawns upon me that fragrances had this mystical effect and with each scent I have a memory attached. Today, whenever I smell a particular scent, I recall a memory and a vivid one at that. Each fragrance that I own brings back a forgotten recollection, an incident that I associate that perfume with, like partying during Uni days whilst wearing my Calvin Klein Contradiction or For Her by Narciso Rodrigues reminding me of romantic evenings and so on. I even associate people with fragrances like Hugo Boss Woman always reminds me of my bestie, Aman. Opium and Chanel No. 5 are reminiscent of my mum. Juicy Couture reminds me of a colleague who could be detected a mile away as she literally drenched herself in it. I remember once at work while I was seated at my desk another colleague asked if that female (the one who bathed in JC) was in for the day and without thinking twice I looked up at him and said “yes she’s in office, can’t you smell her trail down the corridor!”

Anyway, for me a fragrance isn’t just about smelling nice and getting compliments. It’s probably not even close to that as I don’t wear it for others. In my world, perfume has a feel-good factor, giving me that sense of euphoria that nothing else can. It could be to feel sexy, to feel confident, to feel cozy and warm or just to pep up my mood on a gloomy day when the going gets rough. Each memory that is triggered by perfume is enchanting and gets my emotions stirred up like a crazy merry-go-round where I lose myself completely in that particular emotion. When I smell the citrusy Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue, I am reminded of some 8-years-ago-summer experiences. It’s amazing how a fragrance can evoke such strong emotional reminiscences and I’m sure all of you have memories too that you can relate a particular scent with. Each time I buy a new fragrance, I am unknowingly creating a new memory and the latest kid on my block is my Estee Lauder’s iconic Pleasures Eau De Parfum Spray. Whenever I open the bottle, just one whiff brings back intense feelings, happy warm feelings of winter chill wrapped up in cashmere and steaming cups of coffee. I can close my eyes whilst smelling Pleasures and my memory never fails me…

My Experience with Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum Parfum:

This beauty was a gift to me by someone very special and when he suddenly took me into the perfume shop and said that he wanted to buy me a perfume you can imagine how ecstatic I was. Jumping for joy as we women do when we get these no-rhyme-or-reason gifts, I scanned the counter and my eyes instantly settled on the pink classic box standing out in the crowd. Known to be such an absolute legend, I had heard so much about it but never really owned one. I knew it was florally but I was more into fruity and oriental notes earlier in my life. Only post I discovered my all-time favourite Gucci Rush, did my love affair with florals begin. If you’ve ever worn Rush, you will know what I mean. It literally gives you an insatiable rush. So anyway, we picked up Pleasures after I smelt it from the bottle. They had no samples and quite frankly I didn’t require one. I was sold! As soon as I reached home, I spritzed a little on me and went to bed that night drifting off to some la-la land. The next morning I woke up smelling like a million bucks and knew this was for keeps!

Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum

Made from the essence of lily-of-the-valley, jasmine, peonies and the exotic baie rose, it remarkably stands up to its claim. Instant whiff will fetch you a rich floral scent of lilies and jasmine mixed with peonies and some hidden spice which I can’t quite put my finger on. There’s also a slight touch of sandalwood as a base note. What I love about this floral scent is that it is clean and fresh and unlike some sickly sweet florals which give me headaches like the Kenzo Flower. It is strong at first, so do expect an intense sophisticated floral scent if you are considering buying this but rest assured it won’t upset you as its settles down much like other fragrances do. If florals isn’t your cup of tea, then I’m afraid this is not for you.

Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum

I like to wear this all year round as it’s as fresh as you can get and any time of the day. Pleasant and crisp for work too. Longevity is amazing. It lasts me pretty much all day and if I wear it out in the evening, then my hair still smells strongly of it the next day which I love (I don’t spray my hair if that’s what you’re thinking but do spritz a bit at the nape of my neck and temples of my head as well as the other pressure points). Silage is moderate and that works absolutely fine for me as I’d rather have people in close proximity smell this than have the whole room feel my presence. Personally, I don’t like people’s perfumes lingering on after they have left a room or waft around too much. But that’s just me. So I’m all up for moderate silage as compared to strong.

Pros of Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum Parfum:

  • Smells of a fresh bunch of flowers, so perfect for day or night.
  • Easy to use spray nozzle.
  • Heavy glass bottle so not travel-friendly unless you have a smaller version.
  • Very long lasting.
  • Moderate silage.

Cons of Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum Parfum:

  • None.

Would I Repurchase Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau De Parfum Parfum?

This was a gift, but yes, I will definitely purchase when I’m over with this bottle as this is one long lasting relationship I’m in.

IMBB Rating:

5/5

Conclusion:

I really love this classy scent that is mature yet so fresh and clean. I already have fond memories attached to this fragrance and that’s what makes it special. Have a fabulous day!
