Estee Lauder Sumptuous Infinite Daring Length + Volume Mascara Review

The Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme had been my go-to mascara for ages. I kind of liked it a lot and it gave me the result I wanted for a normal day look. So, when Estee Lauder launched the Sumptuous Infinite Daring Length + Volume Mascara, I was interested to check it out, but wasn’t too keen to do a switch; you know, us resisting the change bit…Anyway, let’s find out how this one performed.

Product Description:
What it is:  A 10-hour wear, high-performance mascara that stretches lashes for maximum length and volume.

What it does:  Transform lashes with this multi-tasking mascara—stretching them beyond their limit for a dramatic effect. With a brush designed with a multitude of innovative, stretchable fibers, it perfectly shapes, plumps, and extends each lash from roots to tips. This clump-resistant formula is a smudge proof formula that’s sweat and humidity resistant for infinitely daring lashes that last.

Suggested Usage:  For maximum results, apply to lashes first on one eye, building up desired volume and length; dip wand into formula again and work on lashes of the other eye.  For added drama, prime lashes first before applying mascara with Lash Primer Plus.

Packaging:  The packaging on this one is a nice deep navy tube, as is common with all Estee Lauder packaging, with gold detailing. The wand reminds me of the MAC Upward Lash Mascara, but much much bigger in size than the MAC one. It’s spikey, like the MAC one, but the size is pretty much the same as the Sumptuous Extreme Mascara. The mascara comes packaged in a typical navy cardboard packaging.

My Experience with Estee Lauder Sumptuous Infinite Daring Length + Volume Mascara:

If you check reviews online for this product, you will be zapped – people either absolutely love this or vehemently hate it! There is NO in between!  Honestly, when I tried this mascara for the first couple of times, I didn’t care for it too. I wished I had my Sumptuous Extreme instead! However, a bit of experimentation helped me understand this better and get the results I wanted.

This is one of the blackest black mascaras you will come across.  The mascara holds the curls very well and as promised, it gives good length and volume to the lashes.  It has a slightly wet feel to it – as it tends to clump some lashes together, the brush is not dense enough to separate the lashes. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Some people like spidery lashes where each lash separates out and some may find this look more appealing where the lashes kind of taper out.

The formula takes a while to set down, the dry down time is longer.  You don’t really need to do multiple coats. However, if you do want to, I advise you to let the first coat dry up a little before you go in for the second round. This mascara does not feel heavy or weigh down your lashes.

The formula does not smudge or smear.  It lasts the whole day, you don’t have to worry about re-application or something. It’s easy to remove with a cleansing oil or an eye makeup remover.

I am able to use the mascara on my lower lashes easily. It’s not as easy as using MAC Upward Lash Mascara, but still easier than other mascaras that come with dense brushes.

It does not flake or land up on your cheeks by end of day.  The only bummer with the mascara is that the lashes tend to clump together, which has a lot to do with the sparseness of the bristles. The bristles are designed to ensure that they coat mascara from one side and separate them from the other! That part does not work.

A denser bristled brush would have worked better in coating and separating the lashes. The formula itself is excellent.

• One coat itself is transforming, but you can totally build it up too.
• The thin bristled wand enables you to reach the hair close to the inner corner as well as the lower lash line.
• Lasts the whole day.
• No smudging or flaking.
• Does not feel heavy or weigh down your lashes.
• It’s easy to remove with a cleansing oil or an eye makeup remover.

Cons of Estee Lauder Sumptuous Infinite Daring Length + Volume Mascara:

• The mascara tends to clump the lashes together.

I think mascaras can get very subjective – for one, we all have different type of lashes, plus, we want different qualities from our mascara. For me, curling or holding the curl is not an issue since I have naturally curled lashes, but I do yearn for length as well as volume – this mascara takes care of it all. The good thing is that with Estee Lauder being available in India, you can always try the mascara before buying it.

And as they say – a picture speaks a million words – you can make out the difference it makes to my eyes.
