Estee Lauder Surreal Sun Pure Color Nail Lacquer Review

I seem to be on an Estee Lauder roll! Here comes another product from their wide range – this one is a nail lacquer. I had recently reviewed the shade ‘Ballerina Pink‘, and today I have ‘Surreal Sun’ for you. Estee Lauder has a nice stash of nail lacquer shades in its arsenal – some of them are extremely unusual colours. Recently, they launched a whole new set of shades to match with the lipsticks in their Pure Color Envy and Envy Shine line. So, just like this nail lacquer, there is an existing shade with the same name in their Envy Shine line. I was not too impressed with the Envy Shine collection, so I did not pick up any lipsticks. However, I did pick up this peachy coral shade. Let’s find out how it performed.

Packaging:
The nail lacquer comes in a unique cuboid glass bottle with gold detailing – it’s like a piece of ice cube with an attached neck. The shape makes it very easy to store. The bottle comes packaged in the usual blue cardboard packaging – typical of Estee Lauder makeup.

My Experience with Estee Lauder Surreal Sun Pure Color Nail Lacquer:

The shade ‘Surreal Sun’ is a peachy pinky coral shade – a lovely soft shade for summers. Easy to wear and carry off. As I mentioned earlier, there is a Envy Shine lipstick of the same shade. This shade of nail lacquer is a fairly translucent shade. The pictures show the nail paint with 2 coats on. If you notice closely, you can make out the nail line. So, it definitely isn’t very opaque.

I know this fact can be an irritant for some people as we do like our nail paints to be opaque, preferably in a single coat. Right? And my apologies for the small stubs that I call nails! Whatever I do, my nails just don’t grow. And if they do, they chip very easily. The only time I had lovely nails was during my pregnancy; thanks to the daily intake of calcium.

This nail paint, though an easy-to-pull off color, was a big disappointment for me. Day 1 went okay. However by Day 2, the nail paint had started to fade in places and it chipped too. This was just not expected from a nail paint, when you are paying big bucks for it. I was pretty shocked and tried to recollect if I had done something particularly akin to housework, and the answer was no! 😉 Still there was fading and chipping.

Just to add here, when reviewing a nail paint, I do not use top coat or a base coat with it. The simple logic being that a person thinking of buying the nail paint should know of its performance on its own. Also, the top coat and base coat tend to increase longevity of the paint, and also help to maintain the shine. However, not everybody uses them. So the products needs to be judged on its own merit.

As I had mentioned in my previous review of Ballerina Pink, it’s a bit disappointing that the nail brush is ordinary – similar to any drugstore brand. The company has not really bothered to experiment or innovate in that aspect – unlike Dior. The drawing time is also average. No quick dry here.

Pros of Estee Lauder Surreal Sun Pure Color Nail Lacquer:

• Beautiful peachy – pinky coral
• A lovely, sophisticated and summery shade
• Packaging is unique and screams luxury
• Classy small bottle, so easy to carry
• There is no weird smell to it

Cons of Estee Lauder Surreal Sun Pure Color Nail Lacquer:

• Consistency of the nail paint is little thin and runny – definitely needs at least 2 coats, or  you might even attempt a third one for full opacity
• The lasting power is dismal – fades and chips by day 2

I, definitely, would not recommend this shade of nail lacquer to anyone. This is a definite miss from my end. I think this will work only if you apply it on the day of an event, or a trip to the beach as it works fine just on day 1.
