Eye Make-up for Asian Eyes
I donβt know how relevant this post would be here in IMBB but I have Asian eyes and have always felt left out when traditional eye makeup tips and tricks are discussed. So I thought why not just go ahead and post an article about Asian Eye Makeup π
Asian eye lids are generally “single lid,” i.e. they don’t have a crease on their upper lid, which makes it very challenging to apply makeup using traditional tips. Other types of Asian eyelids do have a crease but with a puffy lid and donβt have enough space for eye shadows to be applied traditionally.
Victoria Jackson, one of the very famous Hollywood make-up artist once said, βDon’t try to be different, just bring out more of the beauty you already haveβ. Asian women often try to make their eyes look bigger by dramatic eye make-up, but I think apart from a lot of hard work it is also philosophically incorrect. Why donβt we just try enhancing and making the best use of what we have naturally? Well, so I did some research and here goes!
Some ways of βshadowingβ Asian eyes are listed below:
1. Apply a single bright colored eye shadow say lime green, turquoise blue, mauve or pink on the lids and finish off with a thick line of liquid liner on the upper lash line and volumizing mascara.
2. Another very efficient and yet dressy way to make up ones eyes is to follow steps as listed in β1β and in addition to that line your lower lash line with Kohl. This is my staple π
3. A way to use dual shadows on Asian Eyes is instead of using two colors bordered vertically, they should be applied horizontally parallel to each other. Thus apply the darkest shade from the lash line to the crease, medium shade from the crease to the brow bone and the lightest shade or highlighter from the brow bone to the brow. For the finishing touches lining the eyes with a liquid eye liner.
4. Smokey eyes for Asian Eyes are a bit tricky but the end result is Va va Voom! Asian eyes should avoid using black for the smokey look unless absolutely necessary as dark colors make the eyes look still smaller. So a smokey look in say green or grey or blue or purple would work best! To get the look, one needs to first cover the entire eyelid with a light shade. Then apply a deeper shade on the bottom part of the lid. Blend it into the lighter shade as you go up.
Lining Asian Eyes:
- The easiest way is to apply a thick eye liner ensuring that it is visible when the eyes are opened.
- Another way is to simply use the lash line as a guide by resting the applicator on the lashes and gently dragging across the line of the lashes. Extend the end of the line slightly past the outside corner of the eye
- My favorite is to start applying the eye liner from the inner corner of the eye thinly and then thicken as you move outwards.
Finished Look:
IMPORTANT TIP: Before applying mascara on Asian eyes, the lashes must be curled first.
