Eyeliner Styles For Different Eye Shapes

Hi ladies,

Here is a comprehensive guide on choosing different eyeliner styles that will enhance the natural shape of your eyes.

Eyeliner Styles To Suit Different Eye Shapes styles

Close-Set Eyes:

You need to create the illusion that your eyes are wider apart than they are; and emphasizing the outer corners of the eyes will help you achieve that. You can try the double winged eyeliner style with parallel wings extending from the upper and lower lash lines or you can create an extended ‘V’ by tracing a third of the upper and lower lash line and tailing it with a thick wing. Also avoid lining all the way to your tear duct as this will emphasize the closeness of your eyes.

Monolids:

A monolid offers the perfect canvas to play around with dramatic winged liner, colourful liners and cat eye looks. You can go for dramatic smokey eyes to enhance your eye shape. To create more definition to the sockets of the eyes, use a soft eyeliner pencil to create cat-eye or winged eyeliner. You can also smudge it out at the outer corners, using a small smudge brush.

Wide Eyes:

Wide eyes call for bolder eye looks. You can also define the inner corners of the eyes to further enhance their beauty. Using a waterproof black liner pencil, create a tiny “V” in the inner corner of your eye. Then, go over the line with a liquid liner and wing it out at the outer corner. When you are applying eye liner, try to keep the same line thickness all the way across.

Small Eyes:

You can swipe liner along the upper lash line but don’t fill in your inner rim. For a dramatic effect, thicken the liner as it reaches the outer corner of your eyes on both lash lines. Fade it out towards the inner corners and add a touch of highlighter to open up the eyes. Also, never apply dark eyeliner on your bottom water line, as this will make your eyes look even smaller.

Almond Eyes:

Almond eyes look good in everything! Almost any eyeliner look will suit almond shaped eyes. To play up and enhance the shape, start with a very thin line in the inner corners, and then build the thickness once you reach the outer part of your eye. You can either stop there, or add a slight wing at the end. For more dramatic effect, carry the -color down along your bottom lash line.

Eyeliner Styles To Suit Different Eye Shapes

Hooded eyes:

You need to try and make your eyes look bigger with eyeliner. Start by thickening your lash base by applying liner between the roots of your lashes and be sure to apply your liner thicker at the outer corner of your eye. If you’re going for a cat-eye, a thick, elongated wing will give your eyes the most shape and definition. Also, remember to not apply eyeliner to the eyelid, but instead apply eyeliner to the upper waterline instead to open up your eyes.

Round Eyes:

You would like the illusion of longer eyes. You can experiment with different flicks to see which one suits you the best. You can start out by simply lining the outer two-thirds of the top and bottom lash lines. Join both lines together at the outer corner and make this a little thicker by smudging liner outwards, or by adding a wing with a liquid liner.

Downturned Eyes:

With downturned eyes, it’s all about keeping them lifted. Leave your lower lash line bare and focus your attention on your upper lash line. Start below the highest point of your arch, and then think up and outwards. A slight upward flick of liner at the outer corners will open up downturned eyes.
