Fasio Smart Curl Mascara Long – BK001 Review

Hi guys!

I have been wanting a lengthening mascara rather than a volumising one for some time now. I picked this one up despite my gut saying that I should go for the mascara which lengthens and volumizes, but eventually, my logical side won. My logic? This is cheaper. Did my logic turn out to be flawed? Read on and see 🙂

Packaging:  The packaging on this one is quite minimal. It comes in a white tube with the words “Fasio” written on the tube. The cap is slightly more interesting with a twisted pattern in the centre, which makes it tremendously easy to remove, hold and apply. There is 7g of product in the tube.

Price:
¥1200. Made in Japan.

Formula:  The formula on this mascara is so underwhelming. It is thin and creamy. It is pitch black, which is good. In the first month, the formula is very thin, but gets thicker as time goes on. The best time to use this mascara is the second and third month (after which you should throw away your mascara anyway). Even then, this is purely a lengthening mascara and does not lengthen quite enough on its own. I always find myself layering a better mascara underneath and using this as a “top coat” to get that final length and even for combing out clumps that a volumising mascara can create.

One weird thing about the mascara is that when you look at the wand, it looks like there are fibers in it, but those don’t translate on the lashes and volumise.

The only few pros I really like about the mascara – it is easy to apply and layer on itself. But even with 2-3 coats, you will only get length. Also, it does not transfer to the skin around the lashes, which is much appreciated.

Because this is a lengthening mascara, I thought it would be awesome for the lower lashes, which often need length rather than volume, but it turns out that it is good for upper lashes only. On the lower lashes, it flakes after a few hours. On the upper lashes, it stays put until I take it off. Overall, it gives a very natural, barely-there look.

Wand:  The bristles on this are longer on one side and shorter on the other. Some wands are designed this way because the shorter bristles usually contribute volume while the longer ones will lengthen the lashes. I find that not to be the case with this mascara, because the shorter side does not do anything for me. The bristles themselves are not tightly packed and not in helical shape; they are further apart, which is what helps in lengthening. The bristles are also good at combing out your lashes and giving them separation.

Lasting Power:  This is a film-type mascara which is the best thing ever. It sets waterproof after about 10-20 seconds and comes off only with warm water (emphasis on the warm). This means it won’t come off in the rain or if you cry.

• Good lengthening and separating mascara – very natural look.
• Formula gets better after the first month.
• Easy to apply and layer on itself.
• Sets to a waterproof finish, but comes off with warm water – film-type mascara.
• Does not transfer to skin around lashes.

Cons of Fasio Smart Curl Mascara Long – BK001:

• Flakes on lower lashes.
• Does not give you that “va-va-voom” length.

Would I Recommend Fasio Smart Curl Mascara Long – BK001?
If you are an absolute beginner to makeup or if your profession warrants minimal makeup, this mascara is a good way to go because the overall look is so natural. Otherwise, I would say, skip it.
