Fenty Beauty is the talk of the town! And while people are busy with the Fenty Beauty foundation and the recent launch of the sexy Stunna lip paint, I was rather drawn towards their makeup brushes. Most of them seem different from the usual makeup brushes but the Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush was my most coveted one. So, here is its review.
Dimensions: 17 cm
Give it to me quick:
An expertly chiseled highlighter brush that “hugs” cheeks for an effortless glow.
Tell me more:
The Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush 120 embraces curves like no other. This game-changing highlight brush features expertly chiseled curves on both sides that “hug” more than just your cheeks—like your brow bone, cupid’s bow, the bridge of your nose, and even your collarbone—for an effortlessly killer glow.
Thanks to its unexpected asymmetrical cut—inspired by a shark tooth—you can highlight with more precision and edge, making it the perfect tool for Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter. Fenty Beauty is 100% cruelty free.
How to Use:
Use the fatter side to supercharge cheeks, the leaner side to luminize your nose and chin, and the precision tip to brighten eyes and your cupid’s bow.
My Experience with Fenty Beauty Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush:
I’m a big believer that a work woman is only as good as her tools. I think good brushes are worth the investment so I don’t hesitate when buying new and interesting makeup brushes. So, I picked up this Fenty Beauty Cheek Hugging Brush from Sephora.
I could not try the product before purchasing hence I was all excited and curious about this one. Apparently, Rihanna’s favourite thing about this brush is the shark tooth shaped design— all the unexpected angles that let you highlight in unique ways.
Firstly, I love the Millennial Pink signature packaging of Fenty Beauty. It is such a fresh change considering that most of the makeup brushes are usually black. The brush comes with a pale pink coloured silicon glove which covers the upper part of the brush. This makes it quite travel-friendly. The bristles can be covered with this glove and the brush can be kept in a pouch.
The brush is a full-length one with a unique shape of the bristles. It has a pale pink wooden handle. The handle tapers downwards, which gives a good grip during application and makes it easier to use. The brush is number coded as “120” and also mentions its usage on the handle -i.e. ‘highlight’. Both are printed in a silver font.
It comes with synthetic bristles which are densely packed and very flexible. The bristles are also pale pink in colour and extremely soft. The overall feel of this brush is quite luxurious. It also feels sturdy. Let’s give credit to the unique design of the brush. The shape of the brush is very well thought of and advantageous to the purpose of highlighting the cheekbones.
The bristles form a triangular sort of shape at the top which is flat on one side while edgy at the other. This makes it fit the convex sort of shape of the cheekbones and glide over the area to spread the highlighter evenly. The brush feels extremely easy to use on both sides of the face. The end result is a decently blended look.
The slightly pointed end of the brush can be used to highlight the bridge of the nose and the cupid’s bow. However, this needs careful and precise application since it might lead to excessive deposition of the product. The suggested usage of this brush is to use the fatter side to supercharge cheeks, the leaner side to luminize your nose and chin, and the precise tip to brighten the eyes and your cupid’s bow.
I would also suggest to hold the brush towards the end and use a lighter hand while applying the highlighter. If you ask me how this brush is different from other regular highlighter brushes in the market, I would say that this helps target the cheekbones area better during application. It also deposits the product evenly and gives a better-blended finish as compared to my other fan brushes, which I use for highlighting.
I find this brush a bit expensive but the superb quality will make it last many years hence it’s worth the investment. This brush is not a multipurpose one and I don’t think as of now I see an alternate use (rather than highlighting). I can compare the quality of this brush to my other MAC brushes.
The brush works best with powder highlighters; however, I have also used this brush with a cream highlighter and was happy with the application. I have already washed this brush once and didn’t notice any shedding of the bristles. The cleaning process of this brush is easy and most importantly the brush retains it’s unique (or weird) original shape after wash.
Overall, I am quite happy with the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush 120. It may not be a must-have for people who don’t often use makeup, but those obsessed with makeup (like me) will surely like this one.
