Hey gorgeous gals,
Super excited to share the review of the much-awaited Fenty Beauty Liquid Lipstick! It is my first Fenty Beauty experience and I cannot even begin to explain how it feels to have a newly-released product in your hand – rather than waiting for months to get it! Before I get into the product itself, a quick brief on Fenty Beauty – for anybody who is new to this brand. Fenty Beauty is a beauty brand created by Rihanna – a US Based best-selling artist with a slew of 8 Grammy Awards, 12 American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, amongst other awards. Apart from being an amazing singer and performer, Rihanna is also known for her fashion and style statements. Considering that she has the midas touch, it came as no surprise when she was approached by Kendo brands (owned by Loius Vuitton Moet Hennesy, who also owns the Sephora chain), to create a makeup brand. Why the name Fenty? Rihanna’s full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. So, it is her name on the line.
Being a Kendo brand, Fenty Beauty was able to have the biggest global launch that I have ever seen in my life – it launched simultaneously in all Sephora stores across the globe! (except India of course!!) Whether it was US or Singapore or Dubai – all Sephoras launched ALL products by the brand – including all shades of foundations. Why is this phenomenal? One, because never have I ever seen a beauty brand launching across the globe like this. Brands/products/collections first launch in US and then trickle down to other parts of the world in a month or more. Also, every brand identifies the more commonly used shade ranges (for foundation, sometimes even other face products like blushes, etc) in the area and stocks only those shades. This segregation happens based on country demographics, as well as within a country (mainly US) – based on demographic of the local crowd. Why, because shelf space in Sephora is premium and they cannot really stock all shades of foundations for all brands. However, this was not the case with Fenty Beauty. Fenty launched worldwide with 40 shades of foundations – with every store stocking ALL 40 shades! This is huge! Is this all because of Rihanna’s pull? Can’t say! Can’t say how much is governed by Rihanna and how much is based on the fact that it is a Kendo brand – so will always have space in Sephora. I feel it was more of a conscious game plan designed in keeping with the identified positioning of the brand and what statement the brand wants to make in the beauty industry. The statement is Fenty is an “all inclusive” brand – created keeping every skin tone in mind – from the palest to the deepest – also including all undertones as well – pink, yellow, peach, olive, green and red!! (Yes, there are way more undertones than just pink and yellow). The products and the strategies are in keeping with this. So, that is a not so brief note about Fenty Beauty! I was so excited to try this new liquid lip color from Fenty and share my views with you. So, let us get on with it!
A weightless, 12-hour liquid lipstick with a soft matte finish—born in one head-turning red shade that looks incredible on all skin tones. What it does: When life’s all about taking risks, wearing red lipstick shouldn’t be one of them. Enter Stunna Lip Paint: The love child of high-impact color and low-maintenance long-wear in one head-turning red that’s got everyone’s name on it. It is, hands down, the perfect shade of red—hand-picked by Rihanna and obsessively tested to make sure it looks incredible on everyone. Equal parts class and sass, Stunna Lip Paint goes from zero to 100 in one stroke of its lip-defining precision wand, making it easier than ever to dress your lips in show-stopping, soft matte pigment. Its serious 12-hour hold is so weightless, if it weren’t for the non-stop compliments, you’d forget you were even wearing it. And if that weren’t enough—Stunna Lip Paint won’t feather, staying kissably smooth. In other words, it behaves so you don’t have to. What else you need to know: Rihanna chose this bright, beautiful red because it sets beautifully on every skin tone. ”The perfect red is hard to get right, and it’s really hard to find your red that works on your skin tone.”—Rihanna, Brand Founder Fenty Beauty is 100 percent cruelty free.

My Experience with Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color Uncensored:
Packaging: The packaging of the lip paint is distinctly eye-catching. An octagonal heavy glass bottle with a Louboutin-ish (almost) long octagonal cap. It looks more like a high-end nail paint rather than a liquid lipstick. The glass bottle is weighted – drives home the feeling of high-end product in your hand. The bottle comes packaged in a fairly big cardboard exterior cover, like most other Fenty beauty products.
You open the cap and would be caught surprised by the applicator at the end of the wand. For a second, I thought mine was broken because I couldn’t fathom how I would apply the product with the ball at the end of the wand. It took me a couple of seconds to get that it is not really a ball and the applicator has a flat circular side. It seemed like a ball because the product latched on to it creating a drop at the end of it. So, is the wand “earth shattering” in terms of ease of application? I feel that the applicator will take a bit of getting used to. I was able to line my lips with a decent amount of precision, but I yearned to reach for a lip brush. The pigment level of the lipstick also had something to do with this, but I will come to it in a bit. My question here would actually be different? Did we really need to re-invent the wheel when it comes to the applicator? Having said that, the applicator works fairly well, once you have swiped off all excess product from the tip. I mean swipe on the neck of the bottle itself. Once you do that, you are able to get cleaner lines.
Shade: “Uncensored” is described by the brand as a “perfect universal red.” And this is the reason I gave you a brief about the brand in the beginning. Everyone knows Rihanna’s love for reds! Not so long ago, Rihanna had collaborated with MAC for a series of collections, which included a twist on MAC’s cult shade “Ruby Woo” called “Riri Woo.” This was one of the reason a lot of people were disappointed to know that when Fenty Beauty launched – there were no lip colours. Finally, Fenty Beauty has launched their liquid lipstick, in only one shade. Yes, just one shade – “Uncensored” – which is supposed to suit every single skintone! That is a really tall claim, but looking at the shade, it might just hold true. It is a striking medium to deep, almost neutral red. The shade really is stunning! I just kicked Smashbox Always On liquid lipstick in the shade Bawse to the curb! This may well be my “Christmas eve” color. I am not going to go on describing this shade – as they say, a picture says a million words. Look for yourself!
Pigmentation: I take up pigmentation after texture, but I am moving the header up for a reason – this needs to be addressed first. The lipstick is “super duper” pigmented. Initially, I thought one dip was enough to coat the whole lip. I was so wrong! One dip and then the entire product on the applicator, scraped off on the neck of the bottle with bare minimum product on the wand is enough to give a fully saturated pigmentation to the lips!!! It is ****** unbelievable! I’m really trying hard not to swear here. This is insane! This is also the reason I did not discuss the amount of product to price ratio within similar brands. Because this 4ml bottle will give you way more wear than a 6ml bottle out there. I have NEVER come across this level of pigmentation before!! And you know I have tested a lot of liquid lipsticks. There is no streakiness, no sinking of the pigment into lip lines, no feathering, no bleeding. Just look at the FOTD for the vividness and depth of the shade.
Texture: This product is made in Italy. The texture is quite liquid, but with the level of pigmentation it has, it does not apply streaky. You get even and smooth coverage and the formula glides easily and spreads easily onto the lips. The texture is quite lightweight, but not entirely weightless. So, it does not feel heavy on the lips, but at the same time, you don’t forget that you have lipstick on your lips (which is a good thing when you have a red lipstick on!!) Once applied, it dries down fairly quickly, and settles into a comfortable matte finish. I don’t feel any tackiness to it – just a comfortable feel.
There is no pull or tug on the lips as it dries down. The only thing which causes concern is the fact that it isn’t really transfer proof. Whenever your lips touch something – cup, straw, skin (yes, it was tested on the back of my hand. Get your minds out of the gutter please!) – a small amount transfers to the surface. The strange bit is that despite the transfer, on the lips, it does not give the appearance of having moved at all. The finish and application on the lips remains intact. I even thought that maybe the transfer is happening because I may have over-applied – meaning, applied a thicker layer than necessary. So, next time I applied a really thin layer, which was still fully pigmented, but it still similar gave transfer. It isn’t bad, but definitely something to make note of.
Lasting Power: The brand claims 12 hours of wear time and this, I feel, is generally the downfall of most products. If I was to rate it on a more realistic claim, the product would do so well, rather than when there is this inflated claim of 12 hours! I have tested the product through the day, through various meal times. I will grant it that it does not budge too easily. I had a small snack followed by salad for lunch and it did not budge at all. What surprised you there? The fact that it did not budge or that I had SALAD for lunch?? 😉 Anyway, so through meals and snacks it had very little wear, it deteriorated only from the very the inner portion of my lip. If I closed my lips, it wouldn’t even be seen. My challenge – I am constantly eating or talking! So…. moving on…. the formula did not seem to break too easily and also contributed a stain – that helped keep the appearance of the colour alive. However, the wear time I had was about 8 hours. Post 8-8.5hours, it seemed to just disintegrate from my lower lip and was a bit of a mess. Also, it had become patchy and caught onto dry flakes on the lips. So, I do not see it lasting 12 hours! Nope! But 8 hours is still good, though not good enough as the brand claimed. It is easy to reapply. The fresh coat merges seamlessly with the existing coat and you do not need to take it all off before re-application. However, once the shade breaks down, by the end of its wear, it will smudge. And if a red shade smudges, you need a concealer to clean the edges before re-application.
Fragrance: There is a very faint slightly sweet fragrance, it’s negligible. I smelled it, so I know, otherwise, I did not feel it during application.
To sum this up for you:

- Very easy to apply with the applicator and get clean, crisp lines, the applicator is truly amazing!
- It applies smoothly and evenly.
- No feathering or bleeding.
- Does not flake.
- Luxurious, unusual packaging.
- Cruelty free.
Cons of Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color Uncensored:
- The wear time does not live upto the claims made by the brand of 12 hours of wear.
- Not transferproof, you cannot kiss with this on!
A 4/5 product.
So, what is the verdict? While it may not give 12 hours wear, 8 hours is good too! The formula is definitely more resistant than some other lip colours in the market, but I think everything else becomes secondary to 3 things – the beautiful packaging, the universally-flattering shade and the INSANE level of smooth pigmentation. I think the latter is what everyone will be talking about when they mention this product!! It is unbelievable!
