Forest Essentials Sandalwood and Turmeric Body Polisher Review

It’s luxurious ayurveda again! This time, it’s a body polisher from Forest Essentials that contains the goodness of sandalwood, turmeric, and a host of other natural ingredients.  When I had a whiff of its fragrance at the store, I was bowled over! It’s a strong yet fresh scent of sandalwood and turmeric, rich in oils and natural ingredients. Here’s the detailed review from me, I have used it extensively for a month and here’s what I think about it :))

My Take on Forest Essentials Sandalwood and Turmeric Body Polisher:

The scent of sandalwood is fascinating and it has amazing beauty benefits.  Turmeric as you all know is used extensively in beauty treatments.  When I read these two prominently on the body polisher’s label at the Forest Essentials store, I couldn’t resist picking the polisher up, and the fragrance as I mentioned earlier, is something that I loved.  Consider this, there’s no added fragrance, colorants, parabens, and it’s not even tested on animals.  What you actually get in the polisher is lots of cold pressed organic almond oil, sea salt crystals, apricot oil, avocado oil, sandalwood and turmeric paste, and some other ayurvedic ingredients. Seriously, this stuff is good to get that spa-like experience and it’s of course a treat to smell like sandalwood after the shower.

The body polisher comes in a big tub with luxurious-looking packaging.  Along with the tub, they provide you with a small bottle of herb-infused oil and a wooden spoon so that you do not have to dip your fingers into the tub to scoop out the product.  The polisher is mainly sea crystals which is covered with all the cold pressed oil and sometimes it tends to become dry.  At that time, you need to add in the extra oil provided to loosen the polisher a bit.

Let me tell you, this packaging is not at all travel friendly, the oil tends to leak out of the tub and it needs to be kept upright at all times, otherwise you would have to frequently add more and more oil.  Before scooping out the polisher, one has to mix in the sea crystals with the oil thoroughly, the oil tends to collect at the top.

Coming to the texture, when you use it on dry skin, it tends to be a little harsh, but I think it provides adequate exfoliation when you use it on dry skin.  When the skin is wet, the crystals melt into the skin instantly and all you get on the skin is an oily scented layer.  There’s not much exfoliation or polishing when you use it on wet skin.  I have found that the best way to use the polisher is on moist skin, then the crystals don’t feel too much dry or harsh and the skin is not wet enough to melt the crystals away.  I always use it at the end of the shower, that way, I feel I can make the wonderful ayurvedic scents linger on me for longer and also get the benefits of all the natural oils and ingredients.  Also then, I can go easy and skip body butter and use only body lotion later.

Coming to the body polishing aspect, I am not much impressed with the exfoliation it provides.  In comparison, Clinique’s Body Exfoliating Cream  thoroughly exfoliates away dead skin and clears off dry patches.  This one is pretty mild, but do not underestimate the power of the body polisher.  With its amazing ingredients, it nourishes skin and also is a treat for the skin. Actually, if you use it in a spa-like environment, and if you can get some help with massaging it on the skin, you would be amazed at how it helps in relaxing and giving you a rejuvenating experience, but again, I need to stress that if you want to get it for a thorough body polishing experience, you might be disappointed.  Use it to give your body a luxurious treat, it would not disappoint. But again, those who like mild exfoliation, would love it!

You also need to keep in mind that ayurvedic concoctions do not work instantly and take some time to show results, so the combination of the ingredients in this polisher might show their effects later on.  Overall, I feel it’s an extremely good product, not so good at exfoliation, but for the effect and the experience that it provides, and the rich ingredients that it contains, and also because there’s nothing artificial in this product – no artificial fragrance, parabens – it’s worth the money.

Summing up the pros and cons for you:

Pros of Forest Essentials Sandalwood and Turmeric Body Polisher:

  • A rich ayurvedic concoction of cold pressed natural oils, sea salt crystals, sandalwood and turmeric paste.
  • Sensual fragrance of sandalwood and turmeric lingers on long after the shower.
  • Does not contain any artificial ingredient.  Also, there’s no artificial fragrance or parabens.
  • Not tested on animals.
  • Gives a spa-like experience.
  • Relaxes and rejuvenates.
  • Provides mild exfoliation.

Cons of Forest Essentials Sandalwood and Turmeric Body Polisher:

  • If you like harsh exfoliators and body scrubs, you would be disappointed.
  • If you use it on wet skin as instructed, the sea crystals melt instantly without doing any exfoliation.

  2. i am allergic to sandal wood and turmeric *headbang* *headbang* which is really big problem at marriage, because of rituals they ended up applying it to me, which made me to look dark on my wedding *waaa* *waaa* *cry* *cry* *cry*

    1. Sravanti….oh you are allergic to turmeric…..some of my cousins are, it causes rashes on their skin. But sandalwood actually helps in soothing skin, are you sure you are using the original sandalwood powder, because what we get in market is fake chemical powders that are bound to cause reactions on the skin

  3. i completely agree with you.. 🙂 it gives an exotic spa experience.. *happydance* *happydance*
