I was looking for some affordable options online for makeup brushes and found these pretty ones on Forever 21 website. I have used brushes from Love & Beauty range of F21 for quite a long time and was very happy with them. So, I didn’t see any harm in purchasing these affordable ones. Whether or not I regret my decision is another story, which you will soon find out.

My Experience with Forever 21 Rose Gold Cosmetic Brush Set:
Packaging: The 2 brushes come enclosed in a clear case packed in a plastic packaging. There is some product information, very confusingly written on the foil back and it is difficult to decipher. There is a reusable seal or zip kind of thing, in case you like to store it in the packet itself. Overall, although it’s sleek I didn’t like this is packaging a lot.
I had ordered these brushes because, the caption read Rose Gold Eyeshadow brush set. Well, it was misleading. The brushes aren’t really rose gold or as metallic as I expected. Instead they are kind of a matte ochre gold shade. I agree that it doesn’t look bad, but it hardly matches my conception.
There are 2 brushes in the set. The packaging says cosmetic brush set, instead of eyeshadow brush set. When you look at this, it will make you realize that these aren’t really eyeshadow brushes, just for the simple reason that they are too big to work on the eye region. Let’s talk about the two brushes separately.
The longer of the two brushes is dual-ended. However, one of the brushes end just comes off and I am not sure why. I have not bothered to attach it with an adhesive, as it is easier to work with brushes which aren’t as elongated as these. One side is a flat side, long and slightly tapered. I used it for applying foundation, given its shape and size, but it was an epic fail. Next, I used it for applying concealer, which was marginally better. For the eyes, this might help in applying eyeshadow base, but I still find it quite big for that. The other side is a normal eyeshadow brush, flat and suited for eyeshadow application and blending. This isn’t the usual fluffy blending brush, this is better for applying the formulas to your eye lids and just evening it slightly. I also use it for setting powder under eyes and such.
The other brush is a stubby eyeshadow brush with a dome shaped top. This is good for packing eyeshadow onto lid. It’s short bristles are good for layering glittery or creamy formulas, but you do need a blending brush post using this.
Coming to why these eyeshadow or cosmetic brushes are a failure for me- I am not sure how to use them. The bristles, except the stubby shadow brush aren’t soft and allow a lot of product to absorb. So, it fails as a foundation or base makeup brush. The other end keeps falling off, so it’s use can’t be justified, although I have tried using it with some eyeshadows. The domed stubby brush still works better, especially with glittery formulas. The synthetic bristles failed to impress me and I find it difficult to wash the makeup residue even with a good brush cleanser. I really cannot figure out the best way to put these brushes to use and any leads are appreciated from you guys.

- Confusing uses.
- Bristles not soft enough.

No. The Love & Beauty range is promising, and I might get some brushes from that range.
