Garnier Fructis Full and Plush Fortifying Shampoo Review

Hello all,

During one of my regular shopping trips, I noticed these bright hot pink bottles being displayed at one of the counters. Typically, this supermarket displays newly-launched items at this counter and naturally my interest was piqued. I went closer to have a look and discovered the Garnier Fructis Full and Plush Fortifying Shampoo. It had the word “new” on it and I ended up picking it 😛

Later, I googled at home and found that the Full and Plush hair care range was launched by Garnier in Jan 2015. There are 4 products in this range:

  • Fortifying Shampoo – Full and Plush.
  • Fortifying Conditioner – Full and Plush.
  • Ends Plumper – Amplifying Leave in Serum.
  • Voluptuous Blow-Out – To use before blow-drying your hair.

This range claims to have fibra-cylane which is a patented hair thickening molecule that penetrates the hair to make it thicker from inside.  Read on to find out whether this new molecule really work any wonders for your hair.

My Experience with Garnier Fructis Full and Plush Fortifying Shampoo:

I have naturally thick and wavy hair. However, I have experienced more than normal hair loss in the past year due to a change of scenery. So anything that promises to make my hair look fuller is more than welcome.  I have an oily scalp; my hair is not overtly oily, but it tends to get oilier after 3-4 days of shampooing.

Packaging:  There was a time when I used to associate Garnier Fructis with this parrot green color 😛 But that has surely changed over time. They have introduced hair care ranges in red, orange, and amber bottles.

The new Full and Plus hair care range comes in a hot pink bottle with electric green print, which is sure to catch anybody’s attention 🙂 The packaging is the standard Garnier Fructis hair care packaging. The bottle has a flip-top cap which shuts tight. But the 13 fl oz bottles are surely not travel friendly as they are too bulky. As of now, this shampoo is not available in a travel size bottle.

Fragrance:  The shampoo has a very strong fruity smell. I personally did not like it and found it to be too synthetic and overpowering, but this is a personal choice and some of you may not find the smell all that bad. The smell does not stay in your hair for long and fades away 2-3 hours after shampooing.

The shampoo is white in color and of medium thick consistency. It is easy to apply and it spreads easily in the hair. It also lathers up well. I massage it onto my wet hair and then rinse it off with warm water. I follow it up with a conditioner from another Garnier Fructis range.

Verdict:
My hair feels a bit tangled after using the shampoo. But this is not a problem for me as I always follow up with a conditioner. This shampoo cleans my hair pretty well and removes all grease. I did not notice any aggravated hair fall after using this shampoo.  I like that it gives me hair which remains clean for 4-5 days and it does not make them oily or dry. I do notice flyaways after 2 days or so, but that is just how my hair is.

Coming to the “Full and Plush” claim – I was left a bit disappointed with this claim. I did not notice any visible difference in the way my hair looks. It does add a little bounce to my hair but does not add any more volume.

To summarize, it works if you are looking for a basic shampoo to clean your hair without making it dry or oily. But, it does not live up to its promise of fuller and thicker hair.

Pros of Garnier Fructis Full and Plush Fortifying Shampoo:

  • Cleans the hair thoroughly and does not make it greasy.
  • Does not dry out the hair or make it frizzy.
  • Inexpensive.

Cons of Garnier Fructis Full and Plush Fortifying Shampoo:

  • Does not add any visible volume to the hair.
  • Shampoo on its own will leave you with tangled hair. You need to use a conditioner as well.
  • Strong smell which not all may like.
  • Contains SLS.
