Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover Review

Hi everyone,

I am back with another review for you all and this time I will be reviewing the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover.  This makeup cleanser is a bi-phase cleanser, similar to the No7 Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Eye Makeup Remover that I have already reviewed. I have not reviewed any products from Garnier before and I rarely use products from this brand. I did try the Garnier Micellar Water which is a lot hyped because of its similarity to the Bioderma Cleansing Water; however, to be frank, I didn’t really understand the hype around it. Don’t get me wrong, I did like the cleanser but I do not think it was worth the hype! Apart from that cleanser, the other product I have tried is this one from Garnier.  I’m not a fan of this product to be frank and I have several reasons.  If you would like to know what they are, please keep on reading!

My Take on Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover:

I have had this bottle of makeup remover for quite a while, in fact I have had it for so long that the packaging of this product has now been revamped and changed! So the bottle I have is the older version, however, I’m pretty sure that the product is still the same. I don’t really like the packaging of this product. It comes with a flip cap top and you need to squeeze or tilt the bottle upside down to get the product out.  I have found that sometimes too much can come out and it can tend to get quite messy and also wastes product.

This product is a bi-phase cleanser, which means it has two layers, a cleansing water layer, which is the clear liquid, and an oil liquid, which is the blue layer. Before using, the bottle has to be shaken in order to mix both layers together.

Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover

My biggest problem with this makeup remover is that it feels really greasy on my skin and leaves an oily residue. It is a pretty good makeup remover because it is so oily and it breaks down eye makeup really well, but I just don’t like the feeling of oil on my face. It also leaves my skin feeling really uncomfortable and tight. The makeup remover has been designed to remove both eye and face makeup and I have found that it is pretty good at removing eye makeup because I wear quite a lot of heavy black eyeliner and since the liquid is very oily, it breaks down the makeup very well. I haven’t tried this remover on waterproof makeup because I don’t wear waterproof makeup, but I can imagine that this makeup remover would be pretty great at removing it because it is so oily.

Since it breaks down the eye makeup very easily, you don’t need to rub your eyes to remove the makeup, which is good because rubbing your eyes can irritate the delicate skin around the eye area. I like to soak a cotton pad in this makeup remover and then place it over my eye for some time, so that it can break down the makeup and then I just wipe it off.

Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover

I think this is a great eye makeup remover but not a great face makeup remover.  It is not the fact that it doesn’t remove makeup well, because it does, in fact it removes quite a lot of makeup in one go since the remover is so concentrated and oily, however, I dislike this makeup remover as a face makeup remover because it leaves the skin feeling quite uncomfortable and tight and also leaves a greasy, oily residue. I have used this remover to remove lipstick and it always leaves my lips feeling very dry afterwards. The fact that it leaves an oily residue on the face yet also leaves the skin feeling quite tight and uncomfortable is the reason why I don’t like it. I used this makeup remover for the sake of using it up because I don’t want to waste the bottle but it’s got to a point where I no longer want to keep putting this stuff on my face because I think it is aggravating issues.

Pros of Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover:

  • Affordable.
  • Removes eye makeup well.
  • No need to rub eyes to remove makeup.

Cons of Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover:

  • Leaves a very oily residue on the face.
  • Can leave the skin feeling tight and uncomfortable.

Would I Repurchase Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover?

No.

IMBB Rating:

3.5/5

The fact that this makeup remover leaves an oily residue on the face yet also leaves the skin feeling quite tight and uncomfortable is the reason why I don’t like it. I am still yet to find a makeup remover that I really like. If any of you have any suggestions for a good makeup remover, please let me know!
