Skin Tone: Medium with yellow undertones
Skin Type: Combination, oily around the T-zone

Hey everyone,

I was running out of my aloe vera gel and decided to get this Garnier Skin Active 3-in-1 Hydrating Aloe Water Jelly. This is designed and marketed as a multi-use product. It can be used as a day cream, as a night cream or as an overnight mask. Let’s see how this product fared out for me.

My Experience with Garnier Skin Active 3-in-1 Hydrating Aloe Water Jelly:

Packaging: The product comes in a transparent tub and there’s a lot of information of the tub. This includes the ingredients list and how to use the product. The packaging proudly claims that 96% of the ingredients are naturally derived. For me, this is just utter bogus because as a biologist, I know that ‘naturally derived’ doesn’t automatically translate into something holy grail or very good. A lot of natural as well as synthetic cosmetic compounds have been engineered through decades to make them better for human skin. Synthetic ingredients or chemicals don’t automatically translate into toxic or bad either. The tub is quite big in size, it’s a lot of product. The quantity is good, but I find the tub packaging very unhygienic and not travel-friendly.

This formulation contains hyaluronic acid and that’s where it gets its hydrating power from. The product can be used in 3 ways and I did use it in all ways to see how it works the best for me.

The consistency of the product is like a jelly and it has a strong fragrance. It’s a nice fragrance but it can be strong for people with allergies. However, the scent doesn’t linger around. A tiny amount of product is needed for the entire face and it takes 3-4 minutes for the jelly to settle. You cannot use this product for your under eyes.
The product glides on smoothly and after it settles down, your skin feels soft and it has a soft sheen to it (due to the aloe), I found it to be just a tiny bit sticky. This stickiness doesn’t last throughout the day.

I used it as a day cream and it doesn’t work for my combination skin. My T-zone becomes oily within 2-3 hours. The hydration lasts throughout the day. I used it as a night cream and I woke up with the oiliest nose ever. I used it as an overnight mask (just applied a thick layer of product and slept) and although I woke with a supple and hydrated skin, it didn’t do anything else apart from it. My regular aloe vera gel actually works on my breakouts. I had some breakouts while using this product around the mouth area, however, I am not sure if it was just due to this product.

Overall, I feel like my combination skin just needs more care and this product doesn’t provide so much for my skin type. However, people with dry skin should give this a try. Maybe it works out for them, that will also explain the raving reviews this product has. I will use this product for the non-oily parts of my face as a primer before makeup, just to utilise it for the soft and supple feeling it provides to the skin.

Pros of Garnier Skin Active 3-in-1 Hydrating Aloe Water Jelly:

  • A little product goes a long way, the tub will last for a long time.
  • Skin feels soft and supple after use.
  • Product is quite hydrating.
  • Multipurpose.

Cons of Garnier Skin Active 3-in-1 Hydrating Aloe Water Jelly:

  • Tub packaging is unhygienic.
  • 48 hour long hydration claim is dubious.
  • Doesn’t help with breakouts.
  • Not suitable for combination or oily skin type.
  • Strong fragrance can be problematic for people with allergies.
