How does it work?
Its unique formula combines purifying agents and zinc to tighten pores, dry imperfections and make the complexion even.
How do I use Garnier Pure astringent?

Apply with cotton pads, concentrating on nose, chin and forehead.
Moisturize
(As written on the bottle)

What is an astringent ?
It is a liquid that cleanses skin and constricts pores. They tighten pores and help control acne by controlling oils and removing impurities. They also remove dead skin and dirt.

Difference between toner and astringent ?
Toner is usually free from harsh chemical and alcohol. Toners would suit people with dry and \ or sensitive skin. Toners help in firming skin and are used to clarify, hydrated & moisturize skin. Toners also restore and refresh complexion, improve skin tone, and restore skin’s natural pH balance.

Astringents are usually chemical-based or alcohol-based. These work by removing access oil and dirt. More suitable for people with oily \ combination skin.

Garnier has some great skin products. Hence I thought of giving this a try. Garnier Pure astringent comes in a good solid plastic bottle (which I like to keep and use for other things). It is faded blue colour, and has a strong smell, like most alcohol based products.

Although the bottle claims that it must be used after face wash, astringents (unlike toners) can be used without cleansing your face because astringents characteristics are such that it absorbs the oils and dirt.

My experience with Garnier Pore Purifying Astringent

I have oily skin, and CTM is a must for me. But I thought I’d give astringent a try instead of toner, because it is supposed to help the oils. I use this usually at night, because I use I use it in the day, after 1 hour, my face starts secreting oil. Now I read somewhere that astringents might do that. But I’m not too convinced.
The claim that it makes your skin tone even is true, even though I find it more of an illusion, because in a day or two, its back to normal.
It also claims that it cleanses and tightens pores. Now there’s two parts to this statement. Cleanses Pores AND tightens Pores. For me, only one works. I don’t think it really goes deep inside to cleanse pores. I feel this because I don’t think it gets absorbed in the skin enough to deep clean. It just cleans on the surface. But about tightening pores? This is absolutely true for me. My pores on the nose and cheek do seem visibly tighter. Again, this might just be an illusion because this only works as long as you use the astringent. If stopped, its back to normal.
Here are pics of the dirt it accumulates.

Pros of Garnier Pore Purifying Astringent

  • Dermatologically tested
  • Acceptable price
  • Fulfills claims , even if its temporary
  • Doesn’t make me break out, I have acne prone skin but its not sensitive

Cons of Garnier Pore Purifying Astringent

  • Contains alcohol, which is not too good in the long run
  • Not at all suitable for people with dry skin
  • Is a harsh product and tingles the skin for a few seconds
  • My face starts excreting oil after an hour

My Verdict on Garnier Pore Purifying Astringent

The war between Oilies & Dryilies is still on. As the weather gets colder, some oilies tend to shift camps, but us oilies need to stick together and not get sucked in!! 😛

This is not an alocohol-free toner people. So people with sensitive skin and people who are reluctant to using alcohol-based products should stay far away from this.

Although this is a harsh alcohol-based product, it actually works and abides by all its claims. It does not hide the fact that this product is made for oily skin. As you can see from the first pic, I’ve used up almost the entire contents, and I will definitely use it again, but not in winters. Come March and I’ll get my next bottle . 🙂

  11. rati / cali/ Radhika / anyone who can help …:announce: :announce: :announce: :announce:

    i hv a question ?

how is fabindia neem tulsi face scrub ?? also while steaming face at home , can i put essential oil , which one ???? i hv normal skin as such , it keeps changing with the slightest change in weather conditions .

    1. I donno about fabindia thingy ?:-) ?:-) ..but yeah..for taking steam at home, you have to massage your face beforehand, otherwise steam will deprive your facial skin of all the essential oils and leave it dry..I think you have my kind of skin, mine is also prone to change depending on my surrounding weather conditions and temperature. :hugleft: :hugright: ..so same pinccchhhh….

I usually take steam once every 15 days. It is soooo relaxing..and I simply love it. I usually massage my face with an almond based cream or an almond based cleansing oil, before taking the steam. After taking steam, I apply a mild moisturizer, and tadaaa me is done. 😀 😀 😀 😀

      1. :highfive: :highfive:

        thank uuuuu :-*

i massage evion ka cream before steaming 🙂 u dont aply a face pack after the steam ?:-) ?:-)

meri dimag ki batti jali , i am having green tea now , i like the smell . what i ll do is add one bag of green tea to my steaming ka water , lets see what happens. :suspense: :suspense:

    2. Naina – not used Fabindia products – no idea – am useless 😀 😀 Steam at home – You could massage with any regular face cream, something a bit heavier than your usual day cream – I have no clue about essential oils, but I think a drop or two of the appropriate oil in the steaming ka water will also work..

      Basically what I am trying to say is I have no idea 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

      1. hmmmmmm…… Radhika maybe i ll buy that fab india thingie n try , :-/ :-/ ..

thank uuu for ur ‘no idea’ wala suggestions :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: 😀

    :rose:

i m from nepal. I am a religious n silent follower of your useful blog.
i have a suggestion to make.
when people write reviews on skin care products, a basic information about the reviewer’s skin type/ skin problems at the top of each article, would be helpful.
    Thank you,

    Aroma
