If you are tired of being skinny and you look forward to gaining weight, this is a must-read article for you! It is indeed a problem to gain weight if you are genetically inclined to getting a lean and thin body. No matter how much you indulge in over-eating and how lazy life you lead, you find it difficult to get those fleshy curves! Keeping that in mind, here are a few tips which would help you to get fat over time, but before you start your getting-fat regime, let me tell you that once you have made up your mind, you must be consistent in your efforts.

Well, let me declare it beforehand that the following lifestyle changes that I am going to talk about might not be very healthy if the wider scope is to taken into consideration. But then, a bit of indulgence now and then is acceptable and what is the harm if a little bit of indulgence can satisfy your whim of gaining a bit of weight for the time being?

• Skip your breakfast: I may sound crazy and you might very well as me- ‘Are you joking?’ In that case, my answer would be a bog ‘NO’! Actually, as soon as you start skipping breakfast, you put your body on the ‘starvation mode’. After all those ten or twelve hours of night’s sleep, when your body is hungry for some food, you deprive the same and automatically, you get prepared to gorge on a king-size lunch. In the process, the body saves the entire calorie you offer!


• Cut the sleep: When you sleep less, the rate of metabolism gets slowed down. When the metabolism slows down, cortisol hormone is released. This hormone increases your appetite. Grehlin is also released in the process and remember that this hormone too signals hunger! Moreover, little sleep makes your body get stressed out. Stress activates your desire to eat more and at the same time, triggers off certain hormones which are responsible for gaining weight. In the process, you tend to snack more and gain weight.


• Forget every little exercise: Who does not love to be a couch potato? Or is there anyone who loves to take to the staircase when there is an elevator already! Well, it is time for giving your body what it loves. Be a couch potato, always take the elevator whenever you have an option, be lazy and watch movies for three or four hours a day! Once you have indulged for quite sometime like this, I am sure you can see a steady increase in your body size!


• More soft-drinks and soda: Any soft-drink and soda contains high levels of sugar although quite a few brands may claim ‘sugar-free’ content. This is one of the most sure-shot ways of gaining all the weight you want!


How To Get Fat- What To Eat And What Not To Eat


If you love to eat vegetables, make sure that you eat only small portions. Stay away from fruits, vegetables and lean meat as much as possible. Keep snacking constantly and if possible, have candy bars, chocolates, potato chips, ice-cream and cakes as many times as you can! All fried food items have loads of calories and fat; therefore, they tend to make you fat. French fries, fried onion rings and fried chicken are something you have every liberty to gorge on! Have red meat and wholegrain breads. Eat unrefined carbohydrates like whole wheat bread, rice pasta, potatoes and dried fruits. Every time you eat, eat in larger portions. Increase the intake of starch and calorie intake by every means.

    You know i have tried everything you mentioned above 😐 Not because I want to, Because of my busy lifestyle i HAVE to. Nothing works 😥

    1. ahem!!! were u consistent Gargi? 😛 have rice….cooked in pressure cooker and have ghee with boiled potatoes!! (a bengali tip)!!! heheee :shying: eating cashews everyday also helps!

  3. Actually one needs to exercise to gain weight, its mandatory. weight training should be done, but it is done in break, you’re not supposed to make yourself tired, but without exercise its almost impossible to gain weight. 🙁

    protein based diet is very important. But then even if we follow the healthy diet regime(which I try to do), without exercise you can’t put on weight! :((

    1. actually protein diet and exercises r mandatory if u want to gain weight in muscles…!!! 🙂 wear and tear followed by replenishing and then wear and tear again…the cycle has to go on!

  5. hi Somreeta! well I liked some of your comments rather than thr whole article, because I am a Nutritionist by Profession. There are foods that have inbuilt storages of fat like Cashews, Dry coconut, fresh fruit juices are an example…
    But eating french fries and all such canned things etc. are not good in the long run
    These things might lead to problems like Hypertension, Higher level of blood Cholesterol,higher levels of uric acid and other products that are released when your body goes into the Starvation mode. These things put a lot of pressure on your kidney and liver also!

    In my opinion weight loss and weight gain should never be thought of as a small term process, rather they should be a thoroughly planned process.
    So if one is really inclined to gain or loose weight He/She should consult a Dietician Physically, or if that sounds tough, a detailed research on the internet can be done to find out foods containing hidden sources of Fat and Simple carbohydrates.

    Good luck to those who want to become Fat (But my sincerest good wishes are with those who adopt a healthy way of doing the same)

  6. wont gaining weight like this also give u cholesterol.
    i think one’s best bet is to eat healthy, eat hearty and eat well.. dont ingest chemicals to put on weight. so eat normal ghar ka khaana, eat 2 eggs instead of one, have a protein shake, drink whole milk, have almonds, ghee. basically ingesting fat is good, but ingesting chemical and synthetic stuff may harm in the long run.

Yes Surpriya….i agree with you absolutely! in fact, i was thinking of composing another article on the ways of gaining weight in the healthy ways….this was more like a fun post where i took into account ‘…a bit of indulgence now and then….’ In fact, if you have noticed my posts in general, i generally tend to write about natural things and products for beauty needs since i too am not too fond of chemicals and stuff! Anyway, i guess i couldn’t put my point across to my readers…i apologize if my words were misleading! 🙂

      1. Akshima, there are wafer thin ppl on this earth too who look like hangers and glass bottles, there has to be certain amount of fat over them to look good, unfortunately am one of those 😥

    I neither eat fried due to skin problems nor chat etc bcz i m a big hygiene freek.
    I love to walk, infact I walk 2-4 kms daily.
    I prefer stairs bcz I m too impatient to wait for lift..

  11. OMG! how i wish i needed these tips! bt i dnt 🙁
    anyways just a word of caution: all of these tips wil not just make you fat, theyl make you insanely unhealthy. there is a right way of gaining weight as well. you still need a balanced diet and exercises. eating fried food an drinking aerated drinks will only make you unhealthy and will definitely cause a lot of health problems in the long run!
