Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Compact Makeup Review

Hello everyone,

I have raved about the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and when I came across a powder compact from this particular range, I grabbed it without a second thought.  This review will be on the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder Foundation in the shade 4.5

An oil-free, award-winning, lightweight powder foundation with a radiant, luminous finish.

What it does:  Inspired by the silk chantung worn by kings and emperors, Luminous Silk Powder Foundation captures the glow of flawless skin. This hydrating foundation glides on seamlessly, for all-day, buildable coverage that leaves an ultra-smooth finish. This award-winning foundation is formulated with Micro-fil— technology, which fuses high impact pigments and weightless texture for a lightweight formula.

My Experience with Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Compact Makeup:

Packaging:  This compact comes in a sleek compact case which closes securely with a click. The lid is glossy black and it has a separate compartment for a dual-sided sponge.
Compact

The black side of the applicator is a traditional porous sponge designed to pack on the product heavily, while the other side is a powder puff designed to sweep on a light layer of powder onto the skin. Though I really appreciate the versatile design of the applicator, I rarely use it as I always gravitate towards using my own brushes for powder application.

Texture:  This is a very smooth, finely milled powder. It is creamy but is not too emollient. It feels like a true powder which is not surprising since the first ingredient is talc. It does not feel chalky and has a silky feel to it.

Coverage:  Though this product is named a powder foundation, I find that to be completely misleading. This product offers very sheer coverage hence cannot be used by itself as a foundation unless you have perfect skin and nothing to cover. Even by packing it on, as I have tried using a buffer brush (Wayne Goss brush 13), it still does not build up. At best, it can be used as a setting powder over a layer of foundation or BB/CC cream and that is the way I prefer using this product.

Look and Feel on skin:  I use this powder to set my concealer as well as my foundation and I must say I am absolutely in love with how this powder makes my skin look. It not only sets my creamy products and takes away any shine, but gives my skin an air-brushed finish. It builds the coverage of my BB/CC cream by just a tad bit.

This powder feels light as air on the skin. It just meshes with the skin and does not leave any sort of chalky powdery feel on it. It is virtually undetectable and very natural looking. It does not feel too drying on my dry skin. It never accentuated my dry patches or pores.

Finish:  The finish it imparts is a soft and velvety matte. I don’t see any visible “luminosity,” but it does give my skin a sort of perfected appearance. It does not leave the skin looking flat matte but has a hint of natural-looking glow without the means of any shimmer. It blurs any imperfection and makes my skin look as smooth as porcelain.

Shade:  Though I do wear the shade 5 in the “Luminous Silk Foundation,” I did get shade 4.5 in the powder version as that seemed to be match my skin as well. Since it is so sheer, you can be a bit flexible with the shades.

Staying Power:  This powder has very good oil-controlling ability. Whenever I have used this powder to set my concealer and face, there is very little shine by the end of the day. It does prolong the wear of my makeup considerably.

Overall, even though this powder is super duper expensive (the same price as the liquid foundation), I still can’t help but love it to pieces. This pressed powder has become my new HG setting powder. I highly recommend this product.

Pros of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Compact Makeup:

  • Smooth, finely milled powder.
  • Gives a soft matte look to the skin.
  • Makes the skin have an air-brushed smoothness.
  • Does not cling onto or accentuate dry patches.
  • Feels light as air on the skin.
  • Good oil-control properties, keeps shine at bay all day.
  • Great for setting concealer and foundation.
  • Sleek compact and useful dual-sided sponge.

Cons of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Compact Makeup:

  • Has a very sheer-light coverage. The claims of it being a “powder foundation” is misleading.
  • The first ingredient is talc, which is cheap filler and makes your wonder if the high price is justified.
