This is a Sunday Special – a glorious lippy from Giorgio Armani’s range – Rouge d’Armani Rouge 402. I know I am breaking from my Estee Lauder series, but there are so many products to cover in that range that I will never get to share my new loves with you, so I decided to jumble it all up. Plus I was waaaaaay to excited to share this with you – my first Armani cosmetic product!!
Exceptional long-wear formula results in up to 8 hours of intense color. Experience comfort and shine, without fading and feathering. Soft texture leaves lips feeling continuously hydrated. Lipstick packaged in an elegant black lacquered case with an exclusive magnetic closure. Sealed with a click.
$ 32 in US. I picked it for about INR 2000 post conversion.
The lipstick comes ensconced in a heavy black lacquered case with a magnetic closure. The case is interestingly designed – it’s not round, its oval!! However, the top half and the bottom half are aligned asymmetrically oval – you have to see it to get it!! Sorry, not able to showcase this aspect in the photos. The lipstick is distinctly heavy – which gives it a more plush feeling
The lipstick has GA etched on it,which looks very very classy! I love when the Brand’s insignia is itched on the lipstick itself – it looks luxe and up market! The case comes packaged in a cardboard box – however, there is no seal on it.
Again, the same grouse as with pretty much all upmarket brands – no indication of colour apart from the number mentioned at the bottom! So far, I have only one Rouge d’Armani, so it’s fairly easier to find. However, I think its sobbing for company – what do you think?
My experience with the Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick – Rouge 402:
The colour is Cranberry or Cherry pink with a tad bit of plum in it! It is intense and not for the faint hearted! The colour goes on creamy – no tug, no pull, no second swipe needed! Rich, intense, full colour in one swipe! I have not seen anything like this before!Considering the colour was so vibrant and intense, it was still fairly easy to apply directly from the tube without the use of a lip brush.
The Finish is Satin – meaning its creamy when applied, has a glossy sheen (not glitter or shimmer)….however, the glossiness wears of a bit in about 3 hours but the colour sustains. The claim is 8hours and guess what? It delivers!! Though by the eighth hour, the lipstick looks a little patchy because you would have eaten/drunk, but its still there. I had to remove it with a makeup remover because the stain still lingered post me washing away the lipstick! In the duration that it is applied, it hugs the lips without settling into the fine lines or drying out the lips (which generally matte lipsticks do with me). It did not seem hydrating – as claimed. However, it was not drying either.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick – Rouge 402:
1. Intense vibrant colour – perfect for Fall….almost like Fall’s answer to Summer’s Fuchsia!
2. Excellent pigmentation – I have not encountered this level of pigmentation. While Bobbi Brown and Estee Lauder lipsticks are highly pigmented, Rouge d’Armani takes it to the next level altogether!
3. Easy to apply from the tube
4. Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips
5. Maintains its glossy sheen for good 3-3.5 hours and the colour for 8hrs plus.
6. Does not hydrate but doesn’t dry out the lips either
7. Despite the intense colour – there was no feathering
8. Luxe feel to the tube and case!
Cons of Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick – Rouge 402:
1. The colour may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But the range does have numerous options.
Going forward, I am removing the price caveat from the Cons list. Price should not have any bearing on the rating since quality does not have any bearing on the price!A product with a high price tag does not automatically translate into a great product and vice-versa.
Need I spell it out? It’s a 5/5.
If it was not a mathematical anomaly, I would give it 6/5.
The color, the product, the texture, the lasting power, the feel, the packaging – its all uber cool and worth the price tag of the product. This could easily be the best lipstick in the market. But it vies for that spot with 2 other brands. Which ones? Coming soon….. I do feel my Rouge 402 is crying for company – do you think I should stop it from crying?
