Today, I will be introducing a new brand here on IMBB – Glossier. I first heard about this brand by word of mouth and also from some youtube beauty videos and was intrigued by the claims, hence I went ahead and bought a whole lot of their products to try, so keep a look out for more reviews of this brand coming your way. This review will be on the Generation G sheer matte lipstick in the shade “Jam.”
But no lipstick in the history of lipsticks looks like this. So we invented our own—Generation G. It’s a new kind of lip color that gives the look and finish of a stain, but that glides on and wears like a tinted balm. Because lipstick shouldn’t complicate your look. Premiering in four important shades designed to look amazing on everyone: two that subtly enhance your natural lip tone, and two for a more saturated look. The effect? Diffused, sheer matte goodness—just swipe it on. No liner, no blotting, no YouTube tutorial necessary.
My Experience with Glossier Jam Generation G Matte Lipstick:
Packaging: The packaging is a sturdy plastic twist-up lipstick mechanism and aesthetically soothing clean white tube, it’s really nothing fancy.
Texture and feel on lips: It is not very emollient or creamy and goes on the lips with a little bit of tug. I don’t find this formula to be hydrating in the slightest. While it sits comfortably on my exfoliated, prepped and moisturized lips for an hours or so, after that, it makes my lips feel dry and parched as Sahara desert and has me repeatedly licking my lips or ultimately reaching for a lip balm. I find this to be the most unforgiving formula for already dry lips without the aid of any external method of hydrating the lips.
Pigmentation and Finish: As the name suggests, this is a sheer matte lipstick. The lipstick applies evenly without bunching up or applying patchy, but it does go on sheer in one layer (which looks like a lip stain left behind after faded lipstick). You can build up the pigment in 2-3 layer up to a point of it being about 80% opaque. The finish is completely matte, no hint of sheen or shimmer.
Shade: This lipstick only comes in 4 shades. I picked up the shade “Jam” which is a beautiful deep berry purple appropriate for the upcoming fall winter season.
Staying Power: The staying power is pretty good as it does look and wear as a stain on the lips for 6 hours. It will fade and will need reapplication after a full meal. It does not transfer much.
Fragrance: I do like the fact that this product claims to be hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested, paraben- free, fragrance-free, not tested on animals. It has no off putting scent.
Overall, though I do love this shade of lipstick and like the ease and fool-proof way of application which yields the most natural-looking berry stained lips, I do not enjoy how drying this formula feels on my lips. I don’t see myself reaching for this lipstick a lot when I have way too many better lipsticks lying around. I will not recommend this product.
