How to Do Glow Facial at Home

Getting a healthy glow remains an elusive aspect for most of us. A healthy lifestyle supplemented by good diet and skincare regimen can give us radiant skin. But blame it on the fast lives, we seldom get time to lead the disciplined life we want, as a result of which skin becomes dull, dry and dehydrated. Glow facial at salons can definitely help in getting rid of the dullness, but cost a bomb and who has time to make frequent salon visits? The easy solution is to do a glow facial at home using a facial kit or some home remedies to infuse your skin with lustre and hydration. Read on to know how you can restore your skin’s glow in the comfort of your home.

Glow Facial at Home

Step 1: Remove your makeup

The key step is to ensure your face is devoid of makeup. Use oil infused micellar water or a good makeup remover to wipe of every trace of makeup.

Recommendations: Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water, Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water, Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

Pure coconut oil or olive oil also works amazingly in melting makeup without drying or irritating skin.

Step 2: Choose a mild cleanser

Choose a cleanser that isn’t harsh or drying. Mild cleansers that gently remove impurities are great for a relaxing cleanup session. Rub it in gentle motions for around 30 seconds and wash off with lukewarm water. Pat dry.

My suggestions are: O3+ Hydrating & Soothing Face Wash, Biotique Honey Gel Refreshing Foaming Face Cleanser, Kama Ayurveda Mridul Soap Free Face Cleanser and Rose Jasmine Face Cleanser, Clinique Liquid Facial Soap.

You can also use a simple homemade recipe of gram flour, milk/curd and turmeric to clean your face. Apply it on your face, let it sit for 10 minutes and wash off.

Step 3: Exfoliate your face

Exfoliation helps in dislodging layers of dead cells which tarnish your skin’s brightness. A good scrub can reveal the fresh cells giving a healthy clear complexion. Scrub your face with a non-abrasive scrub to avoid skin shearing. You can combine it with steaming if you have a lot of congestion or steam your face after scrubbing like I do.

Recommendations: Biotique Bio Papaya Smoothing And Revitalizing Scrub, Lotus Whiteglow Oatmeal & Yogurt Skin Whitening Scrub and Apriscrub Fresh Apricot Scrub, Aroma Magic Mineral Glow Scrub

Try whipping up a concoction of coffee powder, oatmeal and milk to have an excellent skin exfoliator that gives the most gorgeous skin! You can check IMBB for amazing homemade scrubs.

Step 4: Steam your face

Carefully steam your face (be cautious!) for around 10 minutes to open up pores and help in getting rid of blocked skin and sebum accumulation. This will help products penetrate better and work their magic on your skin. If you have blackheads or whiteheads, it will be easy to remove them with a blackhead remover once you have steamed your face.

Step 5: Massage your face

A 10-minute massage can stimulate blood circulation and give you an enviable ‘shine from within’ without your daily dose of highlighter. Take a generous amount of a massage gel or cream, warm it in your palms and let it soak in your skin with the massage. Make firm, upwards strokes for your lower face and stretch out your forehead and temple area. Don’t forget to show some TLC to your neck. Wipe off the excess cream after you are done.

You can check my favorite massage creams for a hydrated glow: Khadi Gold Massage Cream, Biotique Bio Quince Seed Nourishing Face Massage Cream, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.

You can easily substitute your fancy massage cream with aloe vera gel and vitamin E combination and get smooth, silky skin.

Step 6: Mask it

To restore lustre, finish off the facial with a brightening or glow pack. This is meant to erase every sign of dullness and give you glowing skin. Apply it in a thin even layer on your face and wait for 20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Some amazing glow packs are: Aroma Magic Brightening Beauty Pack, Lotus Herbals Whiteglow Masque, The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask, Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque and Glamglow Flashmud Brightening Treatment.

You can easily make potent glow masks from kitchen ingredients like honey, curd, banana.

Step 7: Tone up and moisturize

To seal the glow, apply a toner and follow with a cold compress to shrink your pores and lock the moisture. Gently apply a lightweight moisturizer to finish off the process.

Tadaa! You are done with your facial in a little over 30 minutes with great results and without stepping out of your house! You can also use readymade facial kits like VLCC Gold Facial Kit, Nature’s Essence Diamond Facial Kit, Lotus Herbals Radiant Platinum Cellular Anti-Ageing Facial Kit and O3+ Power Brightening Facial Kit to achieve the desired results.
