Gucci Eye 040 Sunset Magnetic Color Shadow Duo Review

Hello everyone,

While doing some online makeup shopping, it struck me that I have never tried any makeup from the brand “Gucci,” plus they were looking so pretty in the online picture, I couldn’t resist! On a whim, I decided to pick a few of their eyeshadow duos without having even seen them in person. This review will be on the Gucci Magnetic Color Shadow Duo in the shade “040 Sunset.”

Product Description:
Expertly crafted, the Magnetic Color Shadow Duo fuses vibrant hues with lavish textures. A carefully balanced pairing, each eyeshadow duo is saturated with pigment, while powder particles are pre-treated and primed for high-color impact. Dermatologically tested.

My Experience with Gucci Eye 040 Sunset Magnetic Color Shadow Duo:

Packaging:  I am super impressed with how sophisticated and beautiful the packaging is! It comes in a glossy black compact case with double G gold logo and a black velvet pouch. The magnetic closure of the compact adds to the whole luxury appeal. It also comes with two applicators – one sponge tip and one flat brush. The bristles are very soft and not scratchy, but since I prefer using my own brush, I hardly reach for these, but these are good to have in the hand.

Texture:  The eyeshadows in this particular duo were very smooth and silky to touch, not chalky or powdery. There was no grittiness, even with the shimmery shade. Though they weren’t teh “blew my socks off” kind of good, but they were of a level which made me quite happy using them.

Pigmentation and Blendability:  Pigmentation of both of the shades in this duo was wonderful. I had no problem applying them and building them up to the intensity I liked. They were also easy to blend without getting patchy.

Shade:  I am a warm color gal through and through, and the way to my heart is through shades like the one provided in this duo, hence I might be more biased toward this product than I would like. The rusty orange-coppery shade has a shimmery/metallic finish and looks beautiful on the lids as it gleams and shines in the light. It has a lot of golden micro sparkles which surprisingly did not cause a lot of fall out during application. I love love this shade.

The deep eggplant purple has some magenta purple microshimmers which do not translate onto the lids. They got swept away in the process of blending and the finish this shade yields is mostly matte, hence makes for a good crease color to pair with the copper shade.

Both the shades work wonderfully with each other and the final look with using just thesetwo shades turns out to look so much more complex. These shades are perfect for a party or wedding event.

Staying Power:  I do find these shadows to work better over a primer than on bare lids. Even with a primer underneath, I found the copper shade to fade unevenly. The shimmery finish of the copper shade starts to get patchy by 5-6 hours into the wear, but it does not get to the point where it looks very bad, unless you look up very closely. The purple shade wears great without any fading or creasing throughout the day (8 hours for me).
Swatches on the hand

Overall, this duo was actually the best performing out of the 3 duos I own (which are Azalea, Sunset, and Amaretto) though I still wouldn’t consider this as  a must-have, mostly because of the price tag at which there are numerous eyeshadow palettes in the market, which offer more than just two shades of equal or better quality, but if you would like to splurge on an eyeshadow from Gucci, I would absolutely recommend this particular duo.

Pros of Gucci Eye 040 Sunset Magnetic Color Shadow Duo:

  • Beautiful packaging, I simply love it.
  • Magnetic closure.
  • Gorgeous shades, I love them both.
  • Smooth, soft shadows.
  • Does not feel chalky or gritty.
  • Good pigmentation, but these need to be built up and best if used over a primer.
  • Little to no fallout.

Cons of Gucci Eye 040 Sunset Magnetic Color Shadow Duo:

  • Super expensive for just two shades.
  • The copper color did get patchy by 6 hours into wear, even with a primer.
