Gucci Eye Amaretto 020 Magnetic Color Shadow Duo Review

Hello everyone,

While doing some online makeup shopping, it struck me that I have never tried any makeup from the Gucci brand plus they were looking so pretty in the online pictures, I couldn’t resist. On a whim, I decided to pick up a few their eyeshadow duos.  This review will be on the Gucci Magnetic Color Shadow Duo in the shade “Amaretto.”

Product Description:
Expertly crafted, the Magnetic Color Shadow Duo fuses vibrant hues with lavish textures. A carefully balanced pairing, each eyeshadow duo is saturated with pigment, while powder particles are pre-treated and primed for high-color impact. Dermatologically tested.

My Experience with Gucci Eye Amaretto 020 Magnetic Color Shadow Duo:

Packaging:  I am super impressed with how sophisticated and beautiful the packaging is. It comes in a glossy black compact case with double G gold logo and a black velvet pouch. The magnetic closure of the compact adds to the whole luxury appeal.

It also comes with two applicator-one sponge tip and one flat brush. The bristles are very soft and not scratchy, but since I prefer using my own brush I hardly reach for these, but it is a good to have on hand.

Texture:  The texture of these shadows is quite average. Nothing about them caught me saying “wow.” They are smooth, soft to touch and are not chalky or powdery. But they are not the creamiest, ultra-pigmented, and easiest to blend eyeshadows that I have used. (Yes, I am looking at you Viseart!!). I was left quite underwhelmed with this.

Pigmentation and Blendability:  The pigmentation is good but these shadows do perform best over a primer. The colors show up to their best potential when they have something to adhere to, otherwise the colors look quite flat and lackluster on the lids. The blendability is not so great either. The darker color does not blend as readily. It looks patchy and uneven, and loses the intensity of pigmentation the more you blend.

Shades:  This duo has a metallic finish peach-toned rose gold shade, which I like. It gives a pretty pop when applied all over the lid. It has a nice subtle sheen which looks elegant and sophisticated and perfect for daytime or nighttime wear. It also makes for a super pretty inner corner highlight.

The other shade is a deep brown shade which has a satin finish with lots of pink and gold micro shimmer. When applied on the lid, it looks mostly matte, slight bit satiny, but the sparkles mostly get blended away.

These shadows do not create a ton of fall out, which is good. The shades are pretty basic, can be used alone or can be paired with other colors from your collection.

Staying Power:  The staying power is pretty average, nothing to rave about. Since I would only wear this over a primer, it largely depends on the quality of primer I use. Even with a primer, I notice creasing and fading around 6 hours into the wear.

Overall, apart from the super pretty packaging, this product did not offer much to be impressed with. And for the price of almost $50 for two shades, I feel you are better off investing in much better palettes which offer better quality and maybe even more number of shades (for recommendation, I could list a whole page worth of products, but namely, look into Kat Von  D, and Natasha Denona palettes which offer superb quality but fall in the same price range). I would say you can give this a skip.

In the EOTD, a simple eye look with the peach shadow all over the lid and the brown in the crease.  I have also added some purple eyeliner on the waterline for a pop of color.

Pros of Gucci Eye Amaretto 020 Magnetic Color Shadow Duo:

  • Beautiful packaging, I simply love it.
  • Magnetic closure.
  • Super wearable, basic everyday shadows.
  • Smooth, soft shadows.
  • Does not feel chalky or gritty.
  • Good pigmentation but does need to build up and best if used over a primer.
  • Little to no fallout.

Cons of Gucci Eye Amaretto 020 Magnetic Color Shadow Duo:

  • Super expensive for just two shadows which are of average quality.
  • The darker shade is difficult to blend and sometimes comes out uneven and patchy.
  • Does not seem worth the money.
