Guerlain 08 Gisele Rouge G Lipstick Review

Hello gorgeous gals,

Today’s review is on another lipstick 😛 In my defence, it isn’t a new addition in my stash. However, it is a shade that I have recently re-discovered and I am so “so obsesssssssed with it” – insert the or****ic tone of your favourite YouTuber here!! 😉 Come on – I’m not throwing shade – you know exactly what I mean 😛

Guerlain 08 Gisele Rouge G Lipstick Review

Product Description:
Lipstick is reinvented in an exceptional jewel with Rouge G, a subtle balance of intense colour and the comforting pleasure of a creamy lip balm. Behind this magical creation is an astounding formula: the unique combination of ruby powder for spectacular radiance, hyaluronic acid spheres for perfectly smoothed lips and wild mango butter for lasting hydration.
Lips are intensely coloured, perfectly smoothed, moisturized and plumped up. For excessively perfect lips!
A truly exceptional palette, lip glamour comes in 20 colourful shades as luxurious as they are radiant.
Rouge G also comes in four Rouge G Le Brillant shades to dress lips in a luxurious scintillating effect.

The light, delicate scent of a vanilla “floriental” leaves its incomparable mark on Rouge G de Guerlain. Top notes sparkle with a lemon, orange and bergamot accord. The rose and iris heart exudes sweetness. The vanilla and tonka bean dry-down gives Rouge G all of its intensity.
Price:
$54 in US for 3.5 gm.

My Experience with Guerlain 08 Gisele Rouge G Lipstick:

Packaging:  The packaging of the lipstick asks for sonnets to be written on it! The packaging screams luxury – it’s the most easily recognizable design and was probably the only lipstick which was designed this differently – till the Louboutin’s came into the market. The white gold shimmer lipstick compact was designed for Guerlain by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place VendĂ´me. Owning a Guerlain Rouge G is actually like owning a piece of jewellery. Refer pics for the design – though honestly, pics do not do justice to the product. You have to see it for yourself.

The compact is extremely hefty – making it the heaviest lipstick out there. The heft is because of the mirror – it has 2 mirrors forming part of the compact. As you slide the lipstick out, the two mirrors open up – for application/touch-ups. The mirrors close and are held together by the magnetic closure of the lipstick tube. The lipstick itself is a standard twist-up one.

When placed horizontally (the only way you can place it) – it has Guerlain engraved on top. The knob which releases the mirror and separates the tube, has Guerlain’s trademark “G” engraved on it. On the flip side, it has the number and shade name of the lipstick etched – very very lightly. Apparently, if you buy these in US, you also have the option of getting it personalized by getting your name etched on it – just like a watch or a ring! Awesome, ain’t it!

They are a bit difficult to store, since they don’t stand, like other lippies and have to be kept horizontally. I store them in their respective boxes – they come in a standard black cardboard box. Storing them in the box ensures that the shade is easy to identify and they don’t getting any scratch marks. The compact does attract fingerprints though (bummer!!) but is easy to clean! Apparently, they are supposed to be given to the customer with a velvet sleeve, which in India, you may or may not get!

Coming back to the compact – The heft brings in the big debate on whether it is required to be so hefty? Does it help? Inconvenient to store? Inconvenient to carry? Phew! It’s designed like a piece of jewelry – so weight becomes irrelevant in that context. Does the mirror help – yes, it is practical for touch-ups. I anyway store my lipsticks in their respective boxes, so this is no different for me. A lot of people on the International blogosphere crib about the added weight to carry. The way I see it, it’s a beauty to carry and bring out in public. The heft is a small price to pay. And we ladies anyway carry our whole world in our bags, so…

Considering the price is reflective of the packaging as well – I wish they would come up with lipstick refills over time. So that when (or should I say if), one finishes a lipstick, one could just put in a refill instead of paying for the entire compact all over again – just like with powder compacts.
I could go on and on about the packaging – and I think I have done that already. Let’s get on to the product now.

Color:  This is probably the most unique shade from Guerlain that I have. All the other shades that I have reviewed are these bright gorgeous shades (Genna, Rouge d’Enfer). This however is a n*de shade and is probably the most beautiful n*de shade in my whole collection. Honestly, I didn’t appreciate such shades earlier. I used to love my bold, bright shades. Slowly, I started to appreciate the more neutral shades, but it’s only when I got into full on eye makeup that I had learnt to appreciate a good n*de shade on the lips – to balance the whole look. This one is a n*de unlike any other n*de out there. For one, it isn’t too beige or too pink. It has just the right balance of colour to uplift the look and not make your face all washed out. It has this luminosity – it looks almost glossy without the tackiness of a gloss. It is such a stunning n*de shade – i feel it’s a must-have shade in your collection.

Texture: The texture of this is consistent with the previous shades reviewed – it’s absolutely stunning! It is lightweight and creamy with a glossy shine – though not so creamy that it would make lines on your lips when they are pursed together. It’s amazing that the lipstick doesn’t move much despite it being so creamy and glossy. The texture is extremely smooth and hydrating. The hydration lasts for a couple of hours beyond its wear time. The formula is very comfortable to wear. It does not need a lip liner – there is no feathering or bleeding. The texture is definitely one of the best out there – especially if you like glossy/shiny/voluptuous lips! The texture just makes your lips look so pouty and is especially great for ageing lips which may have too many lip lines – it masks the lines very well.

Pigmentation:  The pigmentation is great – fully opaque in a single swipe. Perfect for someone like me who has pigmented lips. You generally see brands doing pigmented shades for their satin/matte lines, but for their glossy/shine lipsticks – they generally go for sheer finishes, which absolutely bums me out because I love full coverage lipsticks -so end up wearing mattes more often than glossy ones. the texture of Rouge Gs is so delightfully different – it is nicely pigmented and still has this amazing glossiness to it!

Lasting Power:  The lasting power of this shade is slightly lower than other I have tried in this line – only because the shade is a n*de one. Still, 5-5.5 hours for a glossy n*de shade isn’t bad, right? Also, where it fades, it fades extremely evenly and does not get or look patchy!

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Guerlain 08 Gisele Rouge G Lipstick:

  • A beautiful n*de color.
  • Lightweight, creamy texture.
  • Excellent pigmentation – opaque in a single swipe.
  • Extremely hydrating.
  • Easy to apply from the tube.
  • The lipstick applies smoothly – no tug or pull – far from it!
  • Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
  • No feathering or bleeding.
  • Iconic luxe packaging.
  • Packaging is convenient for applying and touch-ups.
  • Compact comes with a magnetic closure.

Cons of Guerlain 08 Gisele Rouge G Lipstick:

  • The lipstick compact is heavy – you can’t just throw it in your clutch!
  • Difficult to store – they don’t stand.
  • It has fragrance – which may be an issue for some – not for me.

IMBB Rating:

A definite 5/5 product.

I absolutely love this shade. I think this is probably my most favourite n*de shade followed by Estee Lauder Intense N*de. That is if we are talking of regular bullet lipsticks and not liquid ones; however, of all the n*de shades that I have seen, I feel is the most stunning and the most difficult to replicate.

Totally recommend!!!
