After reviewing Gentiane for you a couple of days back and Girly, Gigolo and Gipsy earlier, I bring to you a shade more up my alley. As I mentioned in one of my earlier review, I don’t have the shots of it in pristine condition. The story on this one is that I tried a handful of orange-reds around my birthday in Juhu Shopper’s Stop – Guerlain Genna, Givenchy Carmin Escarpin and YSL Le Orange (reviewed earlier) were part of this. Though I liked Genna, the price tag was bit of a deterrent. Plus I had asked the YSL SA to keep his last piece of Le Orange for me and I just couldn’t ditch the person. So, I came home with YSL Le Orange but Genna kept haunting me and I finally did pick it up – and at that time, it was the most expensive lipstick in my stash. Since then, Tom Ford has de-throned Rouge G’s as the most expensive lipsticks for me.
Lipstick is re-invented in an exceptional jewel with Rouge G, a subtle balance of intense colour and the comforting pleasure of a creamy lip balm. Behind this magical creation is an astounding formula: the unique combination of ruby powder for spectacular radiance, hyaluronic acid spheres for perfectly smoothed lips and wild mango butter for lasting hydration.. Lips are intensely coloured, perfectly smoothed, moisturized and plumped up. For excessively perfect lips! A truly exceptional palette, lip glamour comes in 20 colourful shades as luxurious as they are radiant. Rouge G also comes in four Rouge G Le Brillant shades to dress lips in a luxurious scintillating effect. The light, delicate scent of a vanilla “floriental” leaves its incomparable mark on Rouge G de Guerlain. Top notes sparkle with a lemon, orange and bergamot accord. The rose and iris heart exudes sweetness. The vanilla and tonka bean dry-down gives Rouge G all of its intensity. A jewel lipstick compact with a white-gold shimmer designed by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place Vendôme. A horizontal design with feminine curves that houses a secret: a mirror automatically appears when the compact is opened. The lipstick has a purely elegant, contemporary design and closes magnetically. This exceptional object boasts a comprehensive, premium formula containing a star ingredient: ruby powder, which acts as an optical whitener to bring out the color and shine of the shades. The blend of natural active ingredients (Tiger Grass, wild mango butter, Gugul resin used in Ayurvedic medicine) completes the formula to plump up, smooth and bring moisture and softness to your lips.
$51 in US / In India @ INR 2850 for 3.5 gm.
I have discussed the packaging of the product in detail in my review on Gipsy, so I will keep this one short. The packaging of this lipstick is pure luxury, it’s the most easily recognizable design. The white gold shimmer lipstick compact was designed for Guerlain by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place Vendôme. This is most definitely the heaviest lipstick (apart form being one of the most expensive) in the market.
The lipstick compact consists of a twin mirror and of course the lipstick bullet which closes the folded mirror and holds them together with a magnetic closure.
My Experience with Guerlain Genna #28 Rouge G de Lipstick:
Color: The shade is a bright orange tinted red, almost like a tomato red. Love how the colour has a vibrancy and creamy, glossy shine. I love, love, love this shade. This shade is not very unique, one can easily find cheaper dupes, but the finish coupled with the colour is quite amazing. The color would suit almost all skin tones, but is sure to look stunning especially on medium to darker skin tones.
Texture: The texture is lightweight and extremely creamy with a glossy shine though not so creamy that would make lines on your lips when they are pursed together. It’s amazing that the lipstick doesn’t move much despite it being so creamy. The lipstick is extremely smooth and hydrating. The hydration lasts for a couple of hours beyond its wear time. The formula is very comfortable to wear. It does not need a lip liner, there is no feathering or bleeding.
Pigmentation: It is extremely pigmented, fully opaque in a single swipe. Perfect for someone like me who has pigmented lips and who loves pigmented lipsticks.
Lasting Power: The product lasted about 5.5-6 hours on me post which it started fading. It left a lovely stain that stayed for 2-3 hours and had to be taken off completely with a makeup remover.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Guerlain Genna #28 Rouge G de Lipstick:
- A beautiful vibrant color.
- Lightweight creamy texture.
- Excellent pigmentation, opaque in a single swipe.
- Extremely hydrating.

- Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
- No feathering or bleeding.
- Iconic luxe packaging.

Cons of Guerlain Genna #28 Rouge G de Lipstick:
- The lipstick compact is heavy, you can’t just throw it in your clutch!
- Difficult to store, they don’t stand.
IMBB Rating: A definite 6/5 product.
This is one of my most favorite shades from the Guerlain Rouge G range. Yes, the colour could be duped. However, the absolute luxury and the quality of the finish is not as easy to replicate. You really have to try this shade, you will not be able to walk away from it. If you do, you will definitely go back for it – just like I did.
