Guerlain Les Violettes Translucent Compact Powder Review
Product Purchased By IMBB
With an oily skin, I’m always on the lookout for products to reduce the shine. Matte foundations, shine control loose or pressed powder are my best friends. So when IMBB gave me the option of picking up a luxury mattifying powder from the house of Guerlain – I could not resist!
Product Details:
Les Voilettes compact powder reinvents transparency combining matity and makeup fixing with the ultimate weightlessness. More airial than ever thanks to a unique alliance absorbing powders and pearls, it perfectly fixes makeup and dress the skin with a veil of matity. Chic case with utmost refinement, a Swiss dots pattern is engraved in the powder. Smoothed, velvety, the complexion is magnified and amazingly natural. For a mattifying and perfecting result, choose the powder puff, applying the powder by dabbing all over the face, starting in the T-zone. To create the finishing effect of a skin-evening and translucent veil, use a brush instead, sweeping gently over the entire face. The stunning design of Les Voilettes meshes art and sophistication with an embedded Swiss dot-and-lace motif for the most luxurious experience.

Packaging:
The compact is a light golden case – though gives appearance of being a metal compact, its actually plastic – looks luxurious. The compact comes encased in a velvet pouch packed inside a black cardboard box. It has a decent sized mirror and a ultra soft thin velvet puff. All in all, the packaging is luxe and screams high-end while still being understated.
My Experience with Guerlain Les Violettes Translucent Compact Powder:
Guerlain Les Violettes Pressed Powder Compact comes in 4 shades. The shade I Picked is #03 Medium – it was a better match to my skin tone though variations are fairly subtle. The product is finely milled, extremely smooth and blendable. It goes on easily and applies lightly. Though the product has 4 shades, the powder will leave a bare tint on your face and not really provide you with any coverage, it’s fairly translucent.
The product has a lovely Swiss dot and lace motif on the powder – looks very appealing to the eye. However, it disappears with 3-4 usages. I use a fluffy soft powder brush for this.
A light application of the product results in instant mattification of the face, giving it a soft and velvety finish. Though the face goes matte, it does not become flat, instead, it looks soft like diffused light. The pores seem a bit blurred – unless they are gaping ones, which it will not really help in hiding, let’s be realistic. The matte effect lasts for about 5 hours, post which I need to do touch up.
I felt that my foundation’s wear time was also extended by the product by a couple of hours, which would anyway have happened, had I used its alternative (Estee Lauder Loose Powder).
The look and feel of the product is ultra luxurious. It has an amazing smell of violets when you are applying it, but that dissipates soon enough.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Guerlain Les Violettes Translucent Compact Powder:
- Extremely finely milled and smooth pressed powder.
- Extremely blendable.
- Translucent.
- Mattifies the skin effectively.
- Does not make the skin look dry, patchy or blotchy or white.
- Keeps the skin shine free for about 5 hours.
- Easy to apply.
- Did not break me out.
Cons of Guerlain Les Violettes Translucent Compact Powder:
- Only 6.5 gm of product.
- Has fragrance – smells of violets. I love the smell, however, I know a lot of people will feel this to be a con.
IMBB Rating:
4.5/5
The product feels ultra luxurious and works amazingly well – mattifies skin, giving it a velvety look. The big turn-off for me is the amount of product – only 6.5 gm! Some companies give that much in case of their blushes!! This will not last more than a month and a half; post which will be the big question – do I repurchase? While this is an amazing product, I feel there is too little of the product to go around – meaning less bang for your buck. I would probably look for an alternative.
i have been eying this product since so many days… looks lovely 😀 Does this also offer any coverage ?
Hey Purva! No, there isn’t any coverage – its fairly translucent…goes on like a dream.
