Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Nude Powder Foundation Review

Hello gorgeous gals,

Today’s review is on a powder foundation from the luxury brand Guerlain. I cannot even recall when I last reviewed a foundation on IMBB, which is a quick reminder for me to start foundation reviews next. Anyway, let us find out more about Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Nude Powder Foundation.

My Experience with Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Nude Powder Foundation:

Packaging:  I am a sucker for good packaging and Guerlain is known for their par excellence packaging. Not only do they pay attention to the product but also ensure that the customer enjoys the whole experience of using the product by encasing it in gorgeous packaging. The product comes encased in a gorgeous glossy black compact with just the Guerlain logo etched on top. The compact has its own suede velvet sleeve which is packaged in the customary black Guerlain cardboard packaging.

The compact itself has a nice heft. It’s got a magnetic closure and a large good quality mirror. The compact also houses a good quality sponge. It is perfect for “on-the-go” because it has a sponge for easy touch up. Though the size and the heft of the compact don’t make it super easy to carry, but considering how gorgeously sleek the compact actually looks, you would definitely want to spring it out for touchups – even when you don’t need one! 😉

Lastly, the compact is refillable. So basically, just like the Cle De Peau products, you can use the powder, once the product is over, you can just buy a refill, which I presume will be substantially cheaper than the cost of the full compact. Having said that, how easy would it be to find refill and that too of this shade, it’s quite debatable.

Shade:  Guerlain is known for the amazing quality of their liquid foundations. Their foundations are par excellence. I have bought their liquid foundation in the past but never repurchased. Why? Simply because of their colour selection! It’s beyond ridiculous! They have this alternate numbering system where in the even numbered products are pink/cool toned and odd ones are more warm toned. This concept runs through their line and is true for their foundations, powders, bronzers, etc. Having said that, from my experience, I have realised that even their even numbered foundations – though may be warm toned – do not really lean yellow – they are more neutral toned or beige – which tends to look ashy on our Asian skin.

Issue number #2 with the shade range – 1 is too light and warm toned, 2 is cool toned, 3 is warm toned but too dark for me!! What about gals who may be in the fairest range but are cool toned or are slightly darker but warm toned? And the whole shade range goes on like this. If you are really committed to their foundation, you can go and get two different shades and customise, but this really isn’t a realistic option for a normal customer.

When Guerlain ventured into the Asian market, they realised this concern and realised a range of foundations in yellow tone! Perfect, right? Yes! However, the lightest shade of this range sent into India was about MAC NC42 range. In March, finally, for the first time in my life, I had a lighter shade in Guerlain available at my store – #32 – Amber Clair / Light Amber! It literally fits me to the T! For reference, I am NC30 in MAC. I wish it was available in liquid form also….but…

Texture: This powder foundation is extremely finely milled – super smooth and almost creamy in texture. It applies beautifully onto the face and pretty much melts into the skin. You cannot detect it as a layer of powder or as something caked on. This really seems like as good as a powder foundation can get.

Once on, your skin definitely feels mattified but not like a mask. Your skin looks like skin and the product allows you to breath. The Hyaluronic Acid in the powder helps retain moisture into the skin and gives it a lovely finish. It also ensures that it does not flake the dry patches of your skin.

Coverage:  This isn’t really a full-coverage foundation if that’s what you are looking for. I would say it is a sheer to medium cover foundation. The coverage will depend on what tool you use to apply it. The sponge enclosed in the compact will give medium coverage. A fluffy powder brush like the Estee Lauder Powder brush will give very sheer coverage and a dense brush, like a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush will give a more medium coverage.

Longevity:  On its own, the foundation has good wear – about 6 hours or, but it’s not really stellar. Also, the hot humid weather of Mumbai really can test the wear of products and honestly, very few are able to stand up to scrutiny. It works really well for setting makeup and for buffing technique, I will come back to that.

Finish: The product has a lovely skin-like finish even though it mattifies the skin.

How to use it:

1. I had initially purchased it use as a stand-alone foundation, so I did get to test its wear. I have mentioned that the wear of the product on its own is not stellar but workable because anywa, when I want longer wear, I prefer to go with a full liquid base. Also, since my skin has cleared up a bit nowadays, I don’t really use powder foundations much. I either do full on base or a BB/CC cream or go totally bare face.
2. The second way of using this was taught to me by a MAC MUA. While taking makeup lessons with MAC, I was shown how to use a powder foundation (instead of a setting powder) to set your makeup. On one level, it totally makes sense – you not only set makeup but also add a bit of coverage, which a normal setting powder won’t give. However, the challenge with this process is that a traditional powder foundation like MAC Studio Finish Powder Foundation or the Estee Lauder Double Wear powder foundation – can get very cakey, very quickly – especially on the skin which already has a liquid foundation on. However, this powder foundation works very well for this purpose because it’s so finely milled and ultra smooth and it glides on very smoothly onto the skin and melts in – there is no discernible layer of powder on top.
3. I have also started using this product as a buffing powder. For readers, who are new to “Buffing” – it’s a technique used to apply compact powder/powder foundation on your face after you are through with your full face of makeup – base/blush/bronzer/contour/highlighter, etc with a dense fluffy kabuki brush. This is done for two reasons – one, it ensures blending of any harsh lines of contour/blush/highlighter, etc. Also, it literally buffs the product into the skin – giving you a more airbrushed type of finish. For this, Wayne Goss suggests using the Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Powder. For me, this one works beautifully! 😉

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Nude Powder Foundation:

  • Beautiful luxe case.
  • Powder is finely milled and smooth to touch.
  • Gives sheer to medium coverage, depending on the applicator being used.
  • Mattifies the skin without making it look dead or caked on.
  • Skin looks and feels like skin – there is no discernible layer of powder on it.
  • Does not accentuate my dry patches or fine lines and pores.
  • Works well on its own, over a liquid foundation to set and add coverage and also for buffing.
  • Does not sink into fine lines.

Cons of Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Nude Powder Foundation:

  • It’s Guerlain – it has fragrance. If you don’t like fragrance in your makeup – you got to skip this.

IMBB Rating:
4.5/5

This really is a lovely powder foundation, would work well with most skin textures, especially more mature skin as it doesn’t sink into fine lines. In terms of pricing of the product, I think it is priced in line with the brand’s image and considering how stunning the compact is and the fact that its refillable – the pricing makes sense.
Do I Recommend/Repurchase Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Nude Powder Foundation?
Absolutely. Do you really need it or will the MAC Studio Finish powder foundation do the job? While the MAC foundation has a cult following and has definitely got a better shade range, I feel this product is way more premium and is worth the investment.

  1. brilliant review as always kulpreet. for some reason yellow based foundations never work for me. It’s always neutral or beige tones for me. The number system is quite strange. i never noticed that myself. I never enjoy wearing powder foundations. I always like that comfort of cream on my skin. But the packaging is so gorgeous. always love reading your review 🙂

    1. Thanks Rati! And welcome back! Await the much anticipated haul post! ??

I have oily to combination skin – so I do keep a lookout for a good powder foundation. But yes, I too somehow prefer liquid to powder foundation…
