After reviewing the beautiful Gipsy from Guerlain Rouge G collection, I bring to you another jewel from the Guerlain arsenal, it’s the shade #71 Girly. And I thank IMBB for sponsoring this pick, which had long been on my wishlist! Its like IMBB can read your mind or the lust list itself!
When we talk about lipsticks, a lot of people mention the optional dupes for the colour. However, over a period of time I have realized that a lipstick isn’t only about the colour. Yes, that is the first thing you and others notice. However, for someone like me who loves makeup for the feel and the joy of trying something new, the formula of the product weighs equally heavily. And Guerlain Rouge G is one of the best formulas out there – right next to Givenchy Le Rouge and Rouge d’ Armani.
The Product Details (from the website):
Lipstick is reinvented in an exceptional jewel with Rouge G, a subtle balance of intense colour and the comforting pleasure of a creamy lip balm. Behind this magical creation is an astounding formula: the unique combination of ruby powder for spectacular radiance, hyaluronic acid spheres for perfectly smoothed lips and wild mango butter for lasting hydration. Lips are intensely coloured, perfectly smoothed, moisturized and plumped up. For excessively perfect lips! A truly exceptional palette, lip glamour comes in 20 colourful shades as luxurious as they are radiant. Rouge G also comes in four Rouge G Le Brillant shades to dress lips in a luxurious scintillating effect.
The light, delicate scent of a vanilla “floriental” leaves its incomparable mark on Rouge G de Guerlain. Top notes sparkle with a lemon, orange and bergamot accord. The rose and iris heart exudes sweetness. The vanilla and tonka bean dry-down gives Rouge G all of its intensity.
A jewel lipstick compact with a white-gold shimmer designed by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place Vendôme. A horizontal design with feminine curves that houses a secret: a mirror automatically appears when the compact is opened. The lipstick has a purely elegant, contemporary design and closes magnetically. This exceptional object boasts a comprehensive, premium formula containing a star ingredient: ruby powder, which acts as an optical whitener to bring out the color and shine of the shades. The blend of natural active ingredients (Tiger Grass, wild mango butter, Gugul resin used in Ayurvedic medicine) completes the formula to plump up, smooth and bring moisture and softness to your lips.
Apply directly to the lips daily or, for a more sophisticated look, apply using a brush after outlining the lip contour with the Guerlain Lip Liner.

I have discussed the packaging of the product in detail in my review on Gipsy – so I will keep this one short.
As I have said before, the packaging of this lipstick is iconic – it’s the most easily recognizable design. The white gold shimmer lipstick compact was designed for Guerlain by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place Vendôme.This is most definitely the heaviest lipstick (apart form being one of the most expensive) in the market.
Honestly, pictures do not do justice to the product – You have to hold a Rouge G in your hand to feel its full impact.
The lipstick compact consists of a twin mirror and of course the lipstick bullet which closes the folded mirror and holds them together with a magnetic closure.
Color: The shade is eloquently described on the website as “pink.” 😉 Yes, that’s it. To me its a bright vibrant pink with a hint of red with oodles of glossy shine. There is no shimmer but there is a vibrancy in the colour, which makes your lips look delectable. The colour is definitely not for the faint hearted. This one takes centre-stage no matter what.
Texture: The texture is lightweight and extremely creamy with a glossy shine – though not so creamy that would make lines on your lips when they are pursed together. The lipstick is extremely smooth and hydrating. The hydration lasts for a couple of hours beyond its wear time. The formula is very comfortable to wear – one of the finest I have come across. You actually forget that you have lipstick on.
Pigmentation: It is extremely pigmented – about 90% colour deposit in a single swipe and easy to build up to the colour in the tube in 1.5-2swipes. The colour is opaque in the first swipe itself and hides lip pigmentation effectively.
Lasting power:The product lasted about 5.5-6 hours on me post which it started fading. It left a lovely pink stain – which stayed for 2-3 hours and had to be taken off completely with a makeup remover.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Guerlain Rouge G – #71 Girly:
1. A beautiful vibrant color
2. Lightweight creamy texture.
3. Excellent pigmentation – Opaque in a single swipe.
4. Extremely hydrating
5. Easy to apply from the tube
6. The lipstick applies smoothly – no tug or pull – far from it!
7. Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips
8. No feathering or bleeding
9. Iconic Luxe packaging
10. Packaging is convenient for applying and touch-ups
11. Compact comes with a magnetic closure.
Cons of Guerlain Rouge G – #71 Girly:
1. You are paying a hefty price for the packaging. Which is great for the first buy but practical only if you get refills in the future.
2. The lipstick compact IS heavy!
3. I’ve not included the ingredients photo cause it’s a very light gold print on black background and doesn’t really show up in the pic. I cant even see even with squinting my eyes!
A definite 5/5 product.
You may well be able to duplicate this colour, but to be able to duplicate the luxurious feel, lightness of texture, the emollient nature of the product, the luminosity it provides – is difficult, if not downright impossible to achieve. The product is lightweight, hydrating, pigmented, has decent lasting power, has a flattering vibrant colour and a glossy shine finish. What more do you need from a lipstick Gurrl?
