Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer Review

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer Review

Hey everyone!

So, I haven’t been regular here because I was travelling the last two-three weeks, and a lot of time went into the preparation as well. I had a fun vacation at home first and then an awesome trip to Goa with friends. Unfortunately, I got horribly sun burnt and have slowly been nursing back my skin to normal before my cousin didi’s wedding which is in about two weeks. I had used loads of sunscreen, but to no avail.  My skin is particularly sensitive to sun actually. If you guys could also help with quick tips to remove my tan, in the comments, I would be grateful to you all!!  So, now coming to the product in question. As I said, I have a wedding to attend in two weeks and I am already preparing what makeup to wear with each outfit! Due to the sun burn and tanning, my face started looking dull and I got extremely dark under-eye circles for a while, so I started hunting for concealers, and dug this out, which I had completely forgotten. I had gotten this a while ago but kept it away since it didn’t match my skin tone. I thought I should review it for you guys just in case.

Product Description:

Packaging:

It comes in a plastic box which contains both the concealer tube and the pencil. It says that we need to line tattoos with the pencil and fill it in, then apply the concealer on top of that, and keep concealing until the tattoo disappears (these are the instructions for covering tattoos, but can be extended to other blemishes too). The tube has a pointed sort of opening which is useful for getting only the required amount of product, which is very less. But still you may get too much product if you’re not careful with it. The pencil comes with a cap, which is useful for protecting it.

My Take on Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer:

Now coming to the actual product itself, first and foremost, the shades. It comes in 4 shades – Ultra light, Light, Medium and Tan. I bought it online, so got the shade Tan, which was the darkest, but it is still light for me by one shade at least. The shade selection is designed mostly for pale people, and is very limited. The “Tan” shade looked pretty ashy on me when I first applied it on my hand, and now that I am more tanned, it isn’t even close to matching. The only part it matches is my wrist, where my skin tone is lighter.
Effectively this product was no use for me, because I don’t have any tattoos that I would want to cover.

Leaving that aside, I wanted to discuss the actual product. I really wanted to like this product and wanted to use this to conceal dark circles or whatever, but I couldn’t. The product has a weird texture, very oily, and I know why – the main ingredient in it is petrolatum – another name for petroleum jelly. When I squeeze it out of the tube, it’s like there is an emulsification of two layers – the oil and the pigment. You can literally see the oil floating. I wanted to get over that, but the smell is very bad. It smells typically of some petroleum product, but I do have a somewhat sensitive nose.

(I hope you can see the oiliness in the swatch. I tried to squeeze the tiniest amount).

I still decided to give it a try because I hear beauty bloggers say that under-eye concealers should be a shade lighter than your face. So, I used the pencil and the concealer on my under eyes which made it look ashy, but to its credit, it concealed everything. I dotted it around my face too, and used it to get an even skin tone across my face, and it actually looks somewhat decent – not very bad – but definitely made up. It photographs well though – it doesn’t look ashy or cakey in pictures, and I can’t explain why. But the oily texture of the concealer creased into fine lines, and I could smell the weird smell on my face. It transfers everywhere, and doesn’t stay long, even topped with powder.

Frankly, I had read a lot of good things about this and then decided to give it a shot, but maybe it just was not for me. Even if the shade was okay, I would have tried to work with it, but it wasn’t.  I didn’t find anything good in the concealer, except for the fact that it conceals very well. I tried concealing a birthmark on my hand, and it did it spectacularly. So, I would say that in case you have a tattoo, or some other use for it, you may try it, if you find a shade match. For reference, I am around NC42 in summers.

Pros of Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer:

  • Conceals everything, stands true to its claim.
  • Texture of pencil is just correct, neither too creamy, nor hard.
  • Covers tattoos or birthmarks easily.
  • A little goes a long way.
  • Priced very cheaply.
  • Not tested on animals.

Cons of Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer:

  • Texture is very oily, ingredients make it so.
  • Creases into fine lines, smudges everywhere.
  • Smell is very bad.

IMBB Rating:

As a concealer only – 4.5/5
Overall product – 3/5

Frankly though, I don’t think my experience is very common as I have heard very good things about it, maybe it just wasn’t for me. But do match the shade before getting it. Good luck!

    1. I don’t think even dry-skinned beauties can work with this. Too much oil in here. And the smell…eeek! *scared* *scared*

  2. Hey Triya, I would love to try it and have heard good things on this concealer, from where did u buy it online ? is it available in India ?

    1. Sorry, this isn’t available in India, I bought it when I went to US. You could ask someone you know to get it for you!

  3. It is very oily. I don’t wear a lot of makeup just some concealer and mascara. And I had this hiding in my drawer decided to give it a try. And didn’t like it. It looks oily and feels oily on. If I were to take my finger and run over it it would come right off . I thought maybe it expired but didn’t . So I came across this review. I’m glad I’m not the only one
