Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetters Eyeshadow Palette – Birthday Suit Review

Hope you are enjoying your day! Today, I am reviewing an eye shadow palette from the Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetters range called “Birthday Suit.”

My Experience with Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetters Eyeshadow Palette – Birthday Suit:

“Top Ten Trendsetters” is a collection of 10-pan eye shadow palettes from Hard Candy. Hard Candy added a few new palettes to this collection last fall. “Birthday Suit” is one such new palette.

Packaging:  The “Birthday Suit” palette has a compact rectangular plastic case. The case has a faux pebbled leather top with some gold/bronze studs. There is a transparent window on the lid which lets you see the colors in the palette. The case itself feels quite sturdy and is travel friendly. There is a slim mirror inside the lid which is quite helpful. There are a couple of sponge tip applicators available with this palette.

Color and Finish:  “Birthday Suit” is a completely matte palette. Finding a completely matte palette at the drugstore is quite rare. The palette has a good mix of light, medium and dark shades which enables you to create a complete look with just this palette. You can also use this as a companion palette to the many other shimmer palettes that you might have.

Here is a description of the individual shades:

Shade 1 is a pale yellow.
Shade 2 is a cool toned taupe olive.
Shade 3 is a dark brown.
Shade 4 is a pale pink.
Shade 5 is a grayish lavender.

Shade 6 is a warm apricot.
Shade 7 is a peachy ivory.
Shade 8 is a cool taupe gray.
Shade 9 is a navy blue.
Shade 10 is an ivory.

Texture:  The texture of most of the shadows in this palette feels quite smooth, except for the peachy ivory (#7) and navy blue (#9) shades. These shade feel a bit dry and chalky and are patchy when applied, but the rest of the shades are easy to apply and blend. There is some fall out, so remember to tap the excess off your brush before you apply it on your lids.

Pigmentation and Longevity: The pigmentation of most colors is at a medium level, without a primer, as seen in the swatches. You can build up the shades on your lids and of course, a primer adds to the pigmentation level. With a primer, they stay on for over 8 hours before they start fading slightly.

• Most shades have a soft and smooth texture and are easy to apply and blend.
• Travel-friendly packaging.
• Most shades are decently pigmented.
• Comes with a good mirror.
• Good lasting power.
• Inexpensive.

Cons of Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetters Eyeshadow Palette – Birthday Suit:

• A couple of shades are quite chalky and difficult to use.

While this is not the best matte palette available, it is a pretty good one considering the price. It is perfect for beginners and also for anyone who is looking for a companion palette for their shimmery palettes. Do check this out.
